Hi
You cannot apply for grants, your council should contact you if your rates valuation was under £51k at your latest valuation.

    There are two grants. You cannot apply for both. If you get SBRR then apply for this grant. It is the easiest one to apply for and so long as you were the ratepayer on 11th March and the property was occupied then you get the grant.

    The other one is £10,000 for properties with RV up to £15,000 and £25,000 for properties between 15,001 and 50,001. If you get SBRR then your RV will be under £15,000 so you could in theory apply for the retail and hospitality grant HOWEVER there are much tighter eligibility requirements (and getting the SBRR grant excludes you) and if the actual USE of the propertry is not in the government list for retail and hospitality rate relief then you MIGHT not get the grant. Even for this grant you have to occupy the property on 11th March, you have to be the ratepayer, and your business has to be solvent. This is a DISCRETIONARY grant, and it is up to the local council to interpret the rules and decide if you get it.

    I would guess that with the second grant, as there are more checks required, it will take longer to get paid.

    Just to clarify, only if you were getting SBRR or rural rates relief as of mid March. If your business has multiple small properties totalling under £15k, you get nothing if more than one is over £2899 RV due to not qualifying for SBRR at all :-(
    I don't think that this clarifies the situation.

    If you are the ratepayer on 11th March and receiving SBRR, and occupying the property you can get the SBBR £10,000 grant.

    There is another completely seperate grant called the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure grant. For this grant for each UNIQUE property you occupy which has a Rates bill and its USE is Retail, Hospitality or Leisure (and there are specific additions and conditions to this) THEN you get £10,000 if the RV or the property is up to £15,000 or £25,000 if the RV is between £15.001 and £51,000.

    Well I can’t claim a bloody thing under this scheme;

    Small Two story office, 3,000 sq feet, B2B Sales, currently business closed with an RV of £18,250 so just above the £15k limit so application declined.

    And because we are not a retail, restaurant or pub protected trade we can’t claim under the higher value grant facility one either.

    So we will get nothing, meanwhile council took £900 council tax payment this week. They even charge rates on six parking spots for staff and the business is right up against it

    Its definitely not the same but you might want to look at the self employed income support, which gives you cash for 3 months as 80% of your trading profit (if relevant!). It is capped at £2500/month for 3 months, and you get paid in June in lump sum backdated from March.
