Hi

I have some friends who wants me to build a store for them. It's a little complicated so I would appreciate advice on which software would be best suited for it.

There are a group of them wanting to sell on one site. Each person will need to login and add their own products and prices etc. They will not be able to see the other people's products from the backend so it is all separated. Everyone's products will then be shown on the site, with options to view just one persons on a page (like a mini site).

Is this possible straight outta the box with any current system like magento etc?

Thanks

Check out Drupal with Ubercart Marketplace - this is still in beta but I believe it works.

Im pretty sure its not possible with Magento, we are currently adapting a Oscommerce store for someone to do this however this is certainly not a out of the box solution we are having to do alot of custom development on this.

You could search for market place scripts something like that would do what you want I would think.

Thanks folks. I dabbled with Drupal a couple of years ago and found it very ungainly and bloated code. Maybe it's progressed now though.

After doing more research I believe what I'm looking for is a 'multi vendor' solution. X-Cart Pro seems like a good setup which should do the job. I think marketplace systems are the same?

Try also IXXO Cart Multi Vendor for Joomla. It's a paid for solution - $1495 USD and they also offer a hosted solution

Wow, around 3 times the cost of X-Cart Pro - wonder what makes it so expensive?

Probably because it's a slightly more "niche" solution than x-cart. I like the look of x-cart but it seems that all the juicey bits are paid-for extras.

Pretty sure you can do this in X-cart but you are going to need add on mods.

There was a solution I looked at a while ago where you could run multiple X-cart stores off the one one database.

Hi

I'm new around here.

I'm looking at doing a similar project. I've been looking into iscripts but I'm still unsure which route to go down.

Hello,

I would like to recommend you to use Vplanetcommerce for building e-commerce sites since it comes with built-in SEO features and it takes you few minutes to open your store and upload your products using upload facility or create your product in the catalog manager.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but I would feel a bit nervous about using something that is not one of the major players incase the support wasn't there and they closed down. X-Cart Pro is looking the more likely at the moment but due to the cost I need to clear it with some people first.

Having used X-cart for the last 8 years you will need to add an additional cost for mods in order for it to work correctly.

For instance the current bundled One Page Checkout still does not work and either gives customers FREE shipping or No VAT (or both).

We have so many mods from both third parties and X-cart that upgrading has become a non starter.

Hello Spock,

I understand your problem of trusting a new player in market. But After some findings i came to know that they have 4-5 years of experience in this field. They are providing sevices to many clients there ongoing project is of uk based website goldencharm and many othere projects. I have respect towards your felling that putting money on a new-ones, but today's big players was also started as new-ones. But I advise you to have look at vplanetcommerce they have many more functionality than any other ecommerce store. You can have a trial as they provide free trial, which can help you taking your decision. And as you r saying X-cart and many other are not so feasible. After all its your decision.

Thanks

That's quite worrying, I'll look into those. Are you using the Pro version?

Does it do multi vendor though?

EDIT: Just realised my spelling mistake on the title - gawd I hate that! I'm forever putting the space in the wrong place :(

I would be interested in getting vPlanet ecommerce integrated with our payment gateway so that we could offer it as a compatible shopping cart to our merchants. Perhaps you could drop me a PM to discuss further?

Thanks,

Simon

Certainly they can integrate it with your payment gateway. They have already integrated with SagePay, Paypal Payflow, Authorize.net and many more.
What is your email id so that I can forward it to the concerned person and you can talk directly to him.

Thanks
