Google PR is updated all the time, second by second, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Or do you mean the google toolbar PR - the little strip of snot that has zero value but which people get all excited about. If so then nobody with any basic understanding of t'internet really cares when it updates.

Toolbar PR is worthless....... am still waiting for my PR1 for a new site that Google says I'm entitled to. I think I deserve a PR 7, perhaps an 8 - for my work on the web, and owning one of the biggest web companies today, but Google doesnt see it that way, hmmmm.

Yet they'll happily award a search box placement within its serps for a directory. Its crazy :(:(

You aint alone mate, so dont worry about it.

I have also heard every 3 to 4 months but also heard that not really a very good indicator of anything!!!

You can see which are the massive intstitutional websites but a better indicator appears to be the actual google listing when you type in a particular keyword. That's how your visitors are going to find you.

I thought PageRank was a good way to qualify the standing of a website in terms of links and the quality of those links. Is this not the case anymore?

Na, cant rely on that anymore. A great site will have many links, but so can a really bad quality site.

I know its a pain in the behind to check each site, but its the only way of knowing what's quality or not.
