What's your "must-have" gadget for 2007?

Our Sift Media sister sites (BusinessZone.co.uk, AccountingWEB.co.uk, HR Zone, Training Zone etc) are running a Christmas Gadget Countdown between now and Friday 21 December. Accountant and "executive peripherals editor" Nigel Harris will be publishing his top 10 picks over the next 10 days and members of each community can nominate and speak out in favour of their favourite pieces of kit.

It's only fair that we hear from UKBF members too - your suggestions are particularly appropriate, because you're more likely to have to fork out your own money to pay for technology toys. We'll report on the devices chosen by each community, and also select a "Gadget of The Year" based on all the votes and comments collected.

The nominations don't have to be exclusively for business use, but as an accountant, Nigel has some interesting perspectives on how the devices can be used - a Wii, for example, might be an excellent interactive training platform.

Looking forward to hearing your Christmas gadget wishes!

Not a gadget, well sort of. iphone.
Apple iPod Touch, MP4 player with most of the stuff that makes the iPhone cool, without the phone or mobile operator tie-in, with less of a price and therefore more of a mainstream market, including business users wanting mobile (Wifi) web access.

With the iPod Touch we are talking about a solid state touch screen device that's only about a third wider and taller than a credit card, which delivers a desktop-like web browsing experience (intelligently shrinking 800 width or wider websites down to its 480 pixels display width) using Safari with quite a usable touchscreen qwerty keyboard, whenever you have access to a wifi hotspot.

Testing our sitebuilder technology and some of our client's sites on the iPod Touch browser has been quite positive so far, and I've even posted a message on a business forum (shell-livewire) using it!

iPod Touch. Beautiful. Love it even more because it's not a phone :)

I was under the impression they only do them with tiny hard-drives at the moment ie 16gb... theres no way i'd fit even a quarter of my collection on one of those.

An iPhone is a must have though... that or a 2nd generation Zune.

Heyyy, how did I missed this Forum?? Saw it only after it was in the top 10 listing.

Well, my gadgets so far had been in sync with the Toshiba Satellite notebook (July 07). I had earlier bought my Tommy 910 GPS (May 07) which has 20GB!!! and again, another GPS called Garmin Nuvi 650 (Sept 07) w/o BT. There's an incredible growth both in fun and getting educated in the field of mapping co-ordinates through a GPS on whatever and whenever a prominent spot or location is considered a POI (point of interest). Next was the Sony BT10CX headphone (Dec 07), very discrete and serving my TT910 GPS, the Toshiba notebook, my SE V800i GPRS gsm Hp (Jan 04) and another Hp from Nokia 6110 (Aug 07) plus the two large PC Towers through 2x BT Dongles (adaptor).

The Sony BT headphone is a very versatile tool for a gadget that meets & serves the purposes worthy of having.

I just started & very late (August 2007) to be honest in understanding & appreciating the presence of MP3 files with music in my GPS that made me decide to buy the multi-tasking versatile Sony bluetooth headphone that complemented the recent purchased units. Just click on all the red text bolded in red and it will reveal its original pictures.

I wish you all a

and again, for 2008, in getting your next "must have" gadget(s) that is worthy of having.

Here's a summary of the latest voting trends from other sites:

AccountingWEB

Nintendo Wii

Training Zone
Nintendo Wii

HR Zone
Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Apple's iPod Touch are neck and neck.

For the moment, UK Business Forums members have shown the most interest in this topic, and Apple's iPhone currently has the largest number of endorsements. It's an interesting contrast - while the Nintendo Wii is figuring more prominently on sites where people are often working for larger organisations, when you have to fork out for yourself and are looking for something practical, the iPhone has a stronger following.

Look forward to seeing if there are any late swings in popularity as Nigel nears the top of his list.

Are you a television fan? If so, then number 10 in our list is for you!

The Wii is in the household allready - damn marvellous pice of kit. The DVD camcorder? Not with a bargepole. I had a DVD recorder for less than a year - miserable pice of stop-gap equipment that was. Hard Drive version maybe - Solid State will be soon enough (allready here but I mean with reasonable capacity).

Gadget: Fiat 500 - what that's too big to be a gadget? Just stand further way to admire it. Sorted.

The result of our big Christmas gadget countdown is in, and in spite of support for the iPhone from several UKBF members, votes from accountants and HR managers tilted the overall prize in the direction of the Nintendo Wii.

As I mentioned before, I thought it was interesting that more corporate types wanted out and out toys, while the entrepreneurs were looking for something that was a little more practical.

Thank you all for adding to the discussion and alterting me to several interesting new bits of kit. I'm just off to AccountingWEB now to let members there know "Ojbected"'s view that my DVD camcorder suggestion was a bum steer.

Merry Christmas!

Already have a PS3, yet I know plenty of people who want one.

apple iPhone looks cool, yet I like my Sony Ericsson. I usually spend only a few minutes at a time on the mobile phone as I don't like using it, because of the health risks it 'may' pose.

I'd like a really big 40-42" Full HD 1080p Sony TV :)

You meant XBOX or PS3 surely. The Wii is not a veg-out machine... ;) Try boxing 'til your arms fall off. Can't wait for Wii Fit!

What colour Sir.;):)

We are doing a special deal this month 2 for the price of 3.:|

Earl

Vanquish S Ultimate Edition... 1 of 50 hehe

I believe there is only 1 left available to the public to be brought, as the other is to be kept as an Aston Martin example.. I still don't see why they ended the Vanquish's life :(

Being the limited edition model, I can only have black, but that's all good!

Now I've just got to find £200,000 odd grand...

Can I spec the car with all the James Bond 'Gadgets' - ;) that way we're not deviating from the Gadget aspect of the thread, and I'd get all that I dream of in a car!
