What would you pay to have Windows XP again?

All my recent computers have been ruined to a greater or lesser extent by the silly operating systems that Microsoft has been producing.

I have come to the conclusion that I would be happy to pay £50 to downgrade and have good old Windows XP.

Is anyone else on the same wavelength? If so, what would you pay to have XP?

Hi Ian,

Vista annoyed me with internet /wifi connection issues.

Windows 8: I am writing on my laptop that has this that has narrowly avoided being thrown out of a fourth floor window on countless occasions due to it's incredibly annoying tendency to swipe to the start screen. Sooooo frustrating!

Windows 10: I haven't upgraded yet as I am allowing the rest of the world to be the guinea pigs and iron out the first six months of problems. I saw a thread on here today about someone downgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 8, which doesn't bode well.

I would love to have XP again. When I am 96 years old I'm sure I will still be harking back to the good old days of Windows XP while I google where to buy my next robotic assistant.

I run XP. Used Vista which was pre-installed on a laptop and it virtually wouldn't work (minimum system requirements should have been at least twice what was advised). I used to have to leave it for 30 mins to load before I could use it. Ever since I've stuck with XP.

IMO Microsoft has gone downhill since XP, I wouldn't test out a new operating system now unless I was paid to do so.

I still do most of my work on XP machines - if it ain't broke and all that. They still do what it says on the tin!

I have a couple of Win 7 machines for specific needs, i.e. where software won't work under XP or where there is internet security concerns (due to worries about whether XP is secure enough these days).

Have no intention of upgrading to 8 or 10 nor buying any new machines until absolutely necessary, which I think could well be some years away!

I agree - Windows 7 is the best Operating System Microsoft did so far. Unfortunately, they do not listen to us users and dumped Win 7 in favour of this monstrosity - Windows 8/10. The users are especially mad at Windows 10 because it has absolutely disastrous user privacy policies.

This might be actually a very good opportunity for a company who has enough money and capability to convince Microsoft to sell source code and IP rights of Windows 7 to them. If Microsoft does not want to work with Win 7 anymore, why don't they just cash out on this OS, giving other company a chance to satisfy user demand that Microsoft chose to ignore?

Love XP, use it all day, every day, I have it virtualised so if i trash it I can get a new install in seconds.

Also have 2008r2 at work using thin clients, its not bad as well, pretty stable and not many bells and whistles.

Prefer Mac OSX at home but still have XP virtual on that, I can boot a virtual XP session in 3-1/2 seconds on my Mac laptop ;)

Have heard nothing good about Win10 at all.

I loved Windows NT4 - rock solid server software ;)

Personally, I've never had a problem with most of the OSs I've ever used (I didn't upgrade to Vista).

But I don't upgrade until pretty much absolutely necessary. In fact the first time I upgraded as soon as I could was Windows 10. I've not had any problems with it.

Until I changed careers, when I was doing the typing, I'd have been happy to carry on with my old ZX Spectrum and copy of Tasword, but clients became fussy about having their stuff emailed to them and not printed out on a 9-pin dot matrix printer.
