What would help you?

Hi all!

We are looking at packaging some of our management development programmes specifically for owners and directors of SME organisations. They will focus upon people management and essential HR knowledge but we are also looking at including other modules such as credit management and business planning etc.

We want the programmes to be useful for owners / directors who have to do a range of jobs within the organisations and basically have to be all things to all people!

I'd really welcome your thoughts about what subjects would be useful to you in a training programme and what you think you need to know in the roles that you do.

Also, how should we schedule the sessions to make them fit in with the day job? Is it realistic to ask people to come out of their organisations for a day at a time or would a series of half day sessions be easier to manage?

All thoughts and feedback gratefully received.

Thank you in advance,

Rachael

Owner managers, such as myself, along with lots of smaller companies would welcome an evening session, or even a half day at the weekend....I have problems with organisations (such as business link) who said to me in my early days as sole trader - Oh, we will get you a place on such and such a course, and we will need you for 2 days...OK, if I come for a course for two days, how does the business run??....they always seem shocked that if you take the only person running the business out, the business will have difficulty in running!

Evening sessions definately - AND not starting at 5pm; generally to get anywhere for 5pm you have to close at 4pm......no small business/sole trader (who may need advice etc on HR matters) can afford to lose an hour. Increase the cost a little, start it at 7pm and have a buffet so that you people can learn, eat and talk all at the same time - we are all guilty of 'phone in one hand, sandwich in the other, so why can't it work for a course?
