What strategies can we implement to successfully expand our business into a new service area?

Hugely competitive and very difficult to break into. There are thousands of app developers on the freelancer sites and loads of agencies all offering the same service.
Running ads won't achieve much. You just need to be very visible on Google, forums, support site, social media and anywhere else potential clients hang out. And go niche. Specialist in one specific type of app.

The challenge with ads is the sheer amount of money you have to put into them to win business. Instead, I think there's a better, more cost-effective way which also gives you a bit more control.
I am guessing the people you are selling to are really easily identifiable. Either in agencies or directly to marketing and branding teams in inhouse customers.
As a suggestion, the way I'd do it is to do two things:
1. Get their email addresses. Probably just hire a temp to do that.
2. Email them stuff that's useful to them. So for agencies, I'd send them stuff like video customer testimonials showing how you've helped make your other customers really successful. For inhouse marketing teams, I'd send them lots of ideas which could help make them more successful.
3. I'd then call them. Or get a telephone-based business development agency to call through.
4. Rinse and repeat.
This will generate you more leads and potentially sales.

Getting the email address will be a struggle. If a business thinks they need an app they will do a Google search for {type of app}. What they won’t do is a general search for app developer. They don’t want a developer, they want an app.
What @Studio Liddell needs to do is identify a niche and build some demo apps. Get these ranked on Google and people will find them. It’s what I’ve been doing for years and it’s very lucrative.

Having a strong and captivating video content is imperative for any marketing strategy in 2023. If you want to expand your business to new areas, I strongly suggest creating a high-quality promotional video along with a compelling social media content plan.
