What is cpmove-domain.tar.gz in hosting files

I've had cpmove-domain.tar.gz (where domain is different) appear in the files of a few of my sites recently.

Would the name suggests it is my host moving control panels for some reason?

Probably. But make sure files like these are not in public_html. Hackers are always probing for file names like these! My logs show them hunting for database.sql, backup.zip type file names all the time.

They are backups generated by WHM/cPanel. If you didn't setup backups yourself and these are files that weren't previously being generated, it is possible they are migrating you to a new server/have set new default backup policies across accounts/developer did it/'other' did it.

Yes it is likely your account has been moved to another server. These aren't general backups. A general PHP/MySQL backup would be domain.tar.gz - a cpmove file, as the name suggests, is created when an account is being moved to another server.
