Hi,
I have set up a company facebook page, it's going OK but just wonder if its overkill, I already have a blog and website.
Do I really need facebook, what next .... twitter... will it be endless social media sites?
So my question is, do I really need all these things..... what do you all do and think?

Hi

Don't really know tbh no one can answer that apart from yourself, if you gain business from it then its worth having if you just get likes and post status up and get nothing from it then its worth giving up.

Facebook is one of the easiest ways to tap into HUGE levels of targeted traffic - quickly

It's worth developing your facebook page so it really speaks to your target market - in addition to increasing online sales it can give you a real competitive advantage

Yes, you should because those Social Media are really helpful for promoting your website and to also to target your potential client. You post your update of products and services and your ads.

Social Media is a best tool for marketing to increase the popularity of a company and also to increase the profit.

I think a Facebook page is worthwhile if you are a B2C business, but not necessarily if you're B2B.

I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of the BananaOffice FB page and when I announced it, several people said to keep it but they are friends, no business contacts made any mention.

Facebook pages for B2B business are still worth having, but they do reqire a different approach than facebook pages for B2C. B2C facebook pages should provide more 'fluff', light entertainment and more of a gigggle, where as B2B pages should be more informative, engage your customers more and have strong call to actions. We ALWAYS recommend companies to have a custom designed/branded FB page, and this is especially important for B2B businesses.

The key reasons why you should keep your FB page:

1) The chances of you target customers being on FB are VERY high - even CEO's of major companies are on FB

2) It improves your online exposure and the chances your company is found by search engines

3) It provides a viral environment to spread your products/services. This is especially effective for B2B as business owners and business professionals proactively network

I see Facebook as more of a Friends and Family forum. I've never taken notice of any of the adverts on there and I don't know many people that do. I have a few business aquaintences with business pages on my list but I already buy off them, that's why their linked because I know them already! However Can't hurt to have a presence on any forum though, if you get one order from it, it's been worth it. Good luck!

I use my FB page to talk to my current clients - if they are away on holiday or business they can still see what their dog/cat is doing! Also talk to other people in the same business (sharing ideas etc). I tend to share more ideas than come back, but it's getting me a name known as doing a good job, and am getting calls from further afield now as people are referring me.

I don't spend a huge amount of time on the FB page, preferring Twitter as I have more 'non dog' business contacts on there. But I wouldn't get rid of it - a lot of people choose me because they can keep in touch when away.

Hi, we have just created a facebook page and it is great for sending out mass updates eg. Press Releases to our 'Likes'!
We have put alot of effort into our page and tried to target it towards both B2B and B2C, check it out and see what you think! I'd appreciate it if you 'Like' it too!
If you do set up a page it would be great to have a look at it, an I will return the gesture!

This is a common misconception but don't forget that B2B clients also have friends and family :) I personally have very little time for B2C pages that are more 'fluff' and more interactive - they serve their purpose but they have zero appeal on a personal level - but an informative B2B page and your much more likely to have my attention.

Yes, I know I'm a bit of an awkward bug being in manufacturing, my opinions can differ slightly to others for that reason. Can't think of anyone on my fam/friends list who would be interested in doing business with my raw materials suppliers on Facebook :| I do understand that for example, a cleaning business would get more feedback on Facebook, and advertising there has it's uses. As I said, good luck to the OP, but my FB is my other life, the one away from work....!:)

Depends on the business really. We are receiving enquiries for domestic AND commercial cleaning through Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I'd say that LinkedIn and Twitter are better for business than Facebook.

At the same time Facebook was usefull for us when employing people.

It does require lots of time, you need to post interesting things or "usefull" for your industry - not only a blatant advertising for your services or product, you also need to know your target audience.

    And its free ;)

You're right- your family and friends won't be interested in raw manufacturing materials! That's why you would have to create a "business" page. People and business who are working with you or in your industry or seeking for your services will "like" it on Facebook, and this is an audience you would be keeping updated, not your family and friends!

However, I'd still suggest to rather use Twitter and LinkedIn for businesses like yours.

I'm afraid a great deal of our customers struggle to send a fax let alone deal with the www. world! (Lots of burly builders who hate the internet or anything email related....txt message is as techno as it gets)
Works well to network with the suppliers though!

Exactly, and that's the key point - there is no one size fits all solution that applies to every business - it's about knowing your market and adapting accordingly. Facebook, Linked In and Twitter are powerful marketing mediums, but it's about taking them and reworking them to best suit your business.

    We Do PPI Claims

we are looking at setting our referral scheme up through facebook purley as it allows our clients the ease of telling all their friends about our service in one easy message. Not many places were you can get such easy referrals from so many people.

On that note......Linked In is driving me nuts! I'm getting so much spam email lately it's getting silly. It's been really useful and have picked up a good few solid contacts but I'm getting bored of the lifestyle coaches and gurus emailing me offering to change my life for the better and make me loads of money! I'm quite happy with my life as it is :D

Haha! Have you tried changing the email settings? They're hot on things like this because it's spam, and decreases the user experience.
