Website vs social media: Which is enough for starting dropshipping or affiliate marketing?

Original Post:

I’m planning to start a dropshipping/affiliate marketing business and wondering whether I really need a website. Can I just rely on social media platforms to generate traffic and sales, or is having a site essential for long-term growth and SEO?

Previously, I’ve tried small campaigns using just social media with some success, but now I want to scale. There are so many products and niches, and I’m not sure whether creating multiple landing pages for each product is necessary, or if I should focus on just a few key pages/posts.

Would love to hear what works best in 2025 for beginners vs scaling businesses.

Depends what you are selling and to whom.

As an aside, US consumers may respond differently to online marketing than those in the UK. Or those in Bangladesh where you are located.

Social media is not the answer for every business
None of our customers look for their transport suppliers on SM .Maybe LinkedIn at an absolute stretch.
I can honestly say that I have had more business from this site than SM

If you do not have a lot of money for marketing, neither will really help.

Please do not be drawn into thinking that throwing up stuff on SM will make you a fortune. Sure, it does happen (less now), but with unique/targeted products, viral posting and a lot of luck.

Look at their profile then their website. They claim to be marketing experts but unsure of where they are located. Certainly not the UK.
