Hi , recently had a website quoted for me and it came in at 25k.

In all fairness its a relarivly complicated website its basically a cut down version of ebay. It doesnt use any payment methods between users or anything.

I can't say too much about the website but do people think that this is a good price ? Very roughly speaking.

Also does anyone want to give me a rough estimation which could come under 25k because its way too much !

Cheers

You can get off the shelf auction scripts for a lot less than that.

Like around a couple of hundred or so....

Not sure what your requirements are, but maybe a off shelf one would do it, after all if you were going to pay 25k you would have over 24.5 k left over to pay for customisation, graphics, seo, marketing etc.....

We offer bespoke web design with intergrated data management through our online CRM Runway.
We have recently completed a similar project to what you have described and therefore should have the functionality you need (if not i'm sure we can find it).

Feel free to PM me if you want more info.

It's impossible to say whether or not £25k is a good or bad price.

Go to a development company and ask them to write something like MS Word and the costs would astonish most. Go to PC World and ask them for something that does what MS Word does, and they'll sell you a copy of MS Word for £200 (or whatever).

So it depends, really, if you're trying to do something people have already done plenty of times before, or if you want to do unique things. So the first step in any job is to see if your requirements have already been matched, or at least closely. Then work from there. If that's already been done and nothing is available then you're talking a custom job and even £25k could be a little on the thing side in many cases!

We were asked to write a questionnaire system, but as consultants we pointed out to the client that there were better solutions that they could buy off the shelf. We saved them £10k and some would doubt our business sense, but we're in this for the long haul - we help clients to compete :)

Dont mean to be a spoil sport but what if your £25k website flops?

Most people forget or dont know that ebay was not a planned creation and it did not start with all the bells and whistles it now has. The guy who created it done the very first version over a weekend and only when it started to get A LOT of postings did he realise that he may have unwittingly hit the jack pot, there wasnt any biz plan behind ebay and it wouldnt even be called ebay if he had his first choice but that was taken so he settled for ebay, again this was fate if he had gone for the original name I dont think it would have been so popular or easy to remember.

There are loads of people out there who have some twisted versions of ebay some may be working the others will most definatley flop and parting with £25k is a serious thing, I dont know if you have been to China but that would buy you a lot of product and chances are you would double your money on your first trip I cant see anywebsite EXCEPT for ebay generating that kind of cash so quickly.

Unless you have something truly unique, something that everyone else has missed you have nothing, BUT if you do then watch out because ebay may come calling and you will be a very happy person with a very big bank balance.

Best Regards & Goodluck

, it was the first to market and has establised itself along with amazon as being the only place most net buyers will go at some point be it to compare prices, buy or sell.
