Has anybody any experience of using a good SEO company which specialises in generating business for local tradespeople?

I want to cover about 15 mile radius form my office, and need my site optimising.
Any help would be appreciated.

Businesses with small catchments find it hard to justify the cost of using Google (either by SEO or by AdWords) to find customers.

Unless you’re in a densely populated area and in a field where lots of people Google for what you want you’re unlikely to get enough interest to make this worth doing. That’s because getting someone who searches Google to be your customer is brutally inefficient.

It takes us roughly 100 Google searches for every enquiry we generate via AdWords*.

That sounds rubbish (it’s pretty good actually) but it’s fantastic compared to what you could expect from your early efforts. It’s not unusual to need 10 000 Google searches per enquiry when you start.

And then you still need to turn those enquiries into customers. Most of our clients start off turning about 1 in 10 sales leads into customers. They do get much better with practice and thought but even our best clients only sell to about 1 in 3 of the leads that start out with a Google search.

The math (for those who are interested).
If 1 in every 10 visitors to your website fills in the enquiry form or calls, you need 10 visitors to get 1 sales lead. If 1 in every 10 people who see your advert or link on Google you need 100 people to search Google to get those 10 visitors.

If 1 in every 100 visitors to your website fills in the enquiry form or calls you need 100 visitors to get 1 sales lead. If 1 in every 100 people who see your advert or link on Google you need 10 000 people to search Google to get those 100 visitors.

*That’s a rough average across just under a million sales leads generated for a range of small businesses in various areas.

In my opinion the best solution for local marketing (as I have seen it work) is targeted keywords and local pages.

This is my only experience due to the services my business offers but I have seen local pages and local keywords in website content / blogs work extremely well for businesses looking to improve local SEO.

Hope that helps?

Happy to offer free advice / share links of what I mean / what you can do if you would like. Therefore no need for an SEO company :)

Hi, from bitter experience, stay away from anyone online advertising SEO services, many are sham websites which look like they are a UK business but they are lead generating for SEO's in India and places like that. If your preferred radius of business is small, you say 15 miles, dont pay for a website, opt for a service which has a sitebuilder, like WIX or something like that. Building a basic website is not really that hard nowadays, there are lots of tools to help you get online. I have to say I have learnt my craft from scratch and each and every time i commissioned a so-called web designer or seo specialist, they turn out to be bullsh**ers
