Website Builder

Hello all,

I'm new to this forum and I'm going to kickstart by asking if anybody knows an online website builder that they'd recommend?

Cost is not an issue and it would need to be able to create a fully functioning, all singing, all dancing website for a letting and property management company.

I've tried Dreamweaver or whatever it is in the past, but didn't get along with it. Not keen on a web developer because I want to work on this project at my own pace.

Please, any help would be great.

I've been on Moonfruit and BlueVoda and had a go, but just wondered what others would suggest.

Despite what you think, you are best of getting a web dev/designer to create a decent CMS based site for you. If they do the job well, you will be able to keep things up to date as you want to

Online site builders may have their place for some sites but for a fully functional letting and property management company you are either going to struggle or not get something that is scalable. We have just completed our third letting and property management company website and you may be surprised how affordable they are.

I work with the Joomla CMS, and there are a few templates out there that could work for your needs. It all depends on how much work you want to do, and how big you want the website to get?

If you only want to manage an ongoing site and don't want to build one from scratch I could easily put together a proposal for the build work, all I would need are the site requirements.

I'll pm you my site details to give you an idea of costs etc.

It depends what your looking for. If it is just a basic page, with maybe a contact form and manual updates, then Dreamweaver should be ideal.

If you are looking for something with a search facility ie 2 bedrooms or £200k etc then i think you should be looking at a developer.

There is as also mentioned something like Wordpress - the issue with this is that it usually needs updating twice a year if not more. Ive had sites hacked through this so unless your happy to update it, i wouldnt touch it. It is a free way with add ons of doing what you want.

I've paid some web-designer to build some sites for around £250, and I've gone through a few of them.

Trouble is, once that site is customised from a template to meet your neds you still have to learn how to handle the backend and troubleshoot problems (like malware always coming in through Wordpress system)

I then however looked into Website DIY builders and when my hosting expires on my earlier sites I will be switching them to this style too as I am simply not technical enough (despite knowing some HTML) or have the time to deal with the issues than come along with a website.

I use a website DIY builder called wizz-it.com, and for about £9 or something a month I get my domain name, hosting, website builder and support - something you won't get after paying a developer a one of fee without payingt them a chunk more. There are similar sites out there I'm sure, but I appreciated their support so much I doubt I'll look elsewhere.

of course if you're looking for a new social network or uber-flashy site, then would recommend a website developer who knows what they're doing and will spend months developing it- but if you're not good with coding and fancy a simple website for your businesses, then I'd recommend wizz-it.com

To be honest, if you try to use a WYSIWYG editor for a dynamic website you'll end up tearing your hair out. 8 years ago I did exactly that after I had an idea for a website. I used Yahoo Site Builder and created my first website - it was sooo bad that when I look back, my concept wasn't floored, it was my website!

My point is that like any business, you have to bite the bullet and accept that in some areas you simply cannot be driven by cost alone. If your business is based primarily online then your website IS your business. Don't cut too many corners as you'll find that your business will suffer.

8 years on and I've built over 500 websites simply with HTML/CSS. Using a website builder in the beginning was a bad mistake and cost me about 18 months of frustration.

Best of luck.
