Hey everyone...

My website loads webp images now for browsers that support it (not 100% though but most are webp) and I wonder if thats any good for seo? I do notice homepage has lost 200k so thats good and good for seo, but does anyone know if there are Google seo points to be had by just having webp images on site?

It's a Google product, it's supported by Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge and other browsers.

Given that one of the ranking considerations is page loading time and Webp files can reduce that loading time quite significantly then I don't see why it wouldn't be a sensible idea for seo purposes. Here's a Google link but I think you may have already see it during your research, https://developers.google.com/speed/webp

there are indeed google seo points to be had by reducing your file sizes although this is offset if the quality of the images goes down, and there will also be points taken away for any incompatibility issues. you say you have addressed this by serving jpg to browsers that do not support webp - you need to be careful how you do this for a number of reasons as it has the potential to significantly damage your seo. can you describe how you are doing it? are you detecting browsers with serverside or clientside scripting, and if clientside, what files are coded into the html for browsers that do not support javascript?

webp is an emerging image format put out by Google. It’s designed to use a more aggressive and better optimized compression algorithm than JPG and PNG with the objective of reducing file sizes with minimal quality loss. And that means faster websites consuming less bandwidth. That makes your site’s visitors happy, and it also makes Google happy–they now explicitly favor fast websites over slow ones in their search rankings.

WebP is a modern image format that provides superior lossless and lossy compression for images on the web. Using WebP, webmasters and web developers can create smaller, richer images that make the web faster.

Google cares about how it can provide both relevant and speedy results to searchers. Using WebP images will improve the loading time of your website i.e. your webpage with WebP images will load faster without compromising the quality of images. This is very much beneficial for your visitors as well as for Google. So from an SEO point of view, I would recommend using WebP images.
