Hi i am currently using Vida Host but all of a sudden my score on speed insights has dropped dramatically. I have been googling why this is happening and some advice is to put in the .htaccess Keep Alive. But Vida Host does not support this. Can anyone recommend a host that does and will help with the speed of my wordpress website. Thanks for any advice

Hi,

What is your site URL and I will have a look at the pagespeed report for you.

Regards,

Jacob

I have two websites. www. carpetcleaningmorecambe. co. uk and a new one still being developed www. floorcareandrestoration. co. uk. Sorry i had to space the web address because i am not allowed to put it in post. All my images have been compressed using EWWW Image Optimizer

You need to edit and reduce the images before uploading. for example, the image on this page:
It could easily be reduce down to under 100Kb.

Fix these and you page speed score will shoot back up.

Thanks Graham i will go through my pictures and see if it makes any difference. But would a better web host be of any help?

I also use Vidahost and from what I have been told they have been taken over by slowdaddy (my pet name for godaddy) not sure if that has had any impact on their servers as such.

But if you are looking a faster host (although as pointed out it may not be the host) can I mention these guys they did a great job for me and very keen prices and it's not an affiliate link https://www.hostxnow.com/

The site is 4.9mb (as of a few minutes ago)

For what you've got on there, you should be able to get that down to a 1/4 or even a 1/5 of that size which will help a lot

As mentioned above, Vidahost have deteriorated since they were taken over but I would get your images resized first and see how it is performing first before you look at switching the host.

Talk to @Dan_HiHosting - I've stopped recommending Vidahost and am now pushing everyone towards Dan's company.

Get the site site down to a smaller size and you will see a big improvement. Then move to a new host - there is a long wait time before the vidahost servers ire up.

And see if you can get rid of some of the external sites, you use google numereous times and this can slow things down.

Thanks everyone, i am currently going through all my pictures and resizing them it is making a difference but still a long way to go. I am going to take all your advice and change hosting i was scoring in the 80's on google insights then plummeted to 19.

Did EWWW Image Optimiser not do much for you?

How many images do you need to resize? I'm not sure of your technical confidence though this is something I'd hate to do manually. Even a bit of a ghetto process such as the following could save you time if you have a massive amount of photos.

1) Download the Wordpress uploads folder 2) Use a batch Photoshop job to resize/optimize each photo, keeping the same name and extension 3) Reupload the uploads folder

Vidahost I guess was 123reg part which is now purchased by godaddy All companies 123reg, heartinternet , tso ,webfusion, 1and1 ( Companies owned by HEG) are now a part of godaddy so make sure while deciding on which company you go with.

Hi thanks i have gone with the advice of Graham (fisicx) and gone with HiHosting
