My non-business head says redirect the web site to a porn site. :D

My business head says take the lot down, web and email.

Don't think I can take web and email down because the domain and email are owned by their company. I did register it for them but they put all the details in etc. so technically it is theirs. On this job, all I did was backup the old site and put a new one in. I do quite like the first option though :).

You should just restore the original and leave it. Weather you have a contract or not i think they are pretty irrelevent they arent really worth the paper they are printed on in these types of cases.

If you had a bit more of a portfolio i would imagine you could get half the payment up front and half on completion as a genral payment structure in future.

Lots of designers i see on forums offer services but have examples of work that don't look that great or they have hardly any examples of work. You need to instill confidence in the buyer, maybe in this instance he was not very impressed.
I usually do get half payment up front but for this guy, I have done a few websites for him so agreed to his request of payment 30 days after completion. He was also happy with the website as stated in an email.

Email from a staff member:
Dear dear, you can't suspend my site as its not your domain nor site,if its not back on in 5 minutes WE will be at your Dad's work and WE will be banging on your f***ing door!! UNDERSTAND???? F*** what anyone else tells you,I know you were paid, you have f***ed off the wrong person,WE know where you lot live,WE will be round by 7pm tonight and don't think I am joking,***owner*** may take it on the chin WE don't.See YOU later...Clock is ticking !

Got this email yesterday but only saw it this morning.

well they don't sound like the type of company i'd like to talk to at all, with emails like that they'd be having a meeting with Inspector Plod to be honest, threatening behaviour and such (didn't a copper get banged up for that? hmm)

things can get nasty very quickly when it strays from business to personal

Yeah funny Pete :D,

In all seriousness Sanjiv, given the urgency he didn't want his address finding out sounds like he might be scared.

I'm no namby pamby office type, give me his address Sanjiv and I'll get the money. I didn't train my brother to be the Midlands ABA boxing Champ and learn nothing myself. :D

A debt or dispute over money owed for work is a civil matter. That threat however is a criminal offense and should be treated as such. You need to make the police aware of this person and the threats they have made, it's gone way too far now.

With regards to the site if the domain is there's fine no one's desputing that, but the hosting hasn't been paid for. If that's not been paid for after repeated requests then do what any other host would do, take it offline, email and web.

I have done more than 3 mate. Just was doing them before I have a proper website setup. Still not many though. Probably done around 15 in total. Just something I do on the side though. More for fun than anything but I don't like getting screwed around.

I still think you're going about this the wrong way and that you should just put up a wall when customers get like this e.g. a proper policy for dealing with late or non payments and you should stop dealing with them through emails, straight forward professional letters outlining the issues around non payment then giving them deadlines or an increasing amount of interest on the debt amount.

remember that they don't own the design, they didn't purchase it, they may own the domain though (it's in there name) and this is where i charge a deposit e.g. £25 which covers the cost of the domain and other little bits, my customer owns this from the start and then they pay for the design after.

Customer paid for the domain them self. I have had a semi-decent offer from another member on UKBF to sort the debt for me, for a small fee. Considering it.
