Web and app designer for my private jet charter brokerage

Hi,
I recently acquired a private jet charter brokerage company that is in dire need of a new website (the current website was designed in the 1990’s… very poorly I might add). In keeping with the digital age, I would also like an app (for both IOS and Android) to accompany it.

Competitor websites (and apps) would be:
PrivateFly.com
Xojet.com
Fly1Jet.com
Lunajets.com
Aircharter.co.uk

Ideally, the website would be made via Wordpress (I have experience with that platform) though it is not a prerequisite.

Please send quotes and a timeframe for how long you think this would take.
Thanks!

Welcome to UKBF @John Mayer Schaffer

There isn't sufficient information for anyone to quote for this without a lot more information. Setting up a Wordpress site with a generic theme along with contact form and other general features is simple and can be done in a couple of hours.

But that's just the start. For example:

Is the booking form integrated with a DB? If so do you already have an account and access to the API?

You also want apps. These a totally different to a website and each could cost thousands.

And then there is marketing. Your marketing plan will determine the content, structure, navigation, calls to action and so on.

All of this means the cost could be anything from £1000 to £10,000

Still nowhere near enough info to even start on a quote.

You need to create a full specification that details all the required functionality, site structure, style guides and so on. If you have a database you need to provide the table structure and data formats.

For example, you have a form on the site but what fields do you want? How will the date picker work? Do you have lookup tables for the locations? On submission what happens next?

This sounds like a decent sized web project - the kind of thing OrangeTree Online do.

The first stage, however, would be to draw up a detailed specification, and to understand the business goals attached to this website.

An initial chat would be a great starting point, and stage one would be to draw up a detailed specification.

This stops two things - a product that disappoints you, and a product that just never gets finished because no one had agreed where the finish line was.

Exciting business, though!

I've made myself a site that generates leads - I'll do you a similar one for £300.

I'm actually certain that mine will be better than the cheapest quote you get for this tender - but I certainly wouldn't recommend myself!

As the experienced folk above have mentioned, the first thing you want to do is to engage and establish what is really required and who can deliver what they promise.

When engaging, listen very closely to the questions they ask and how they manage your expectations. The ones who don't mention 'quick/cheap/easy' will be the right ones.

Do you need a similar site to your competitors?

I had a quick look at two of them and they are not simple Wordpress content sites.

They both seem to integrate with other people's systems.

One (Privatefly) functions using an API written in Erlang (using Cowboy server) which is unusual (its usually used for systems that need very high reliability and scaling, like Whatsapp). It is a javascript heavy web app and I would guess the mobile apps use the same API.

The other (Lunajets) seems to have a React web app as the front end, but I cannot tell what the backend is.

If you want to match what those sites do, a designer cannot do it. You need some level (I cannot tell how much as I do not know exactly what services they integate with) of custom programming. Wordpress is not really a good platform for this either.

Hello, I sent an email to you with my requirements not long after your original message. Please check you email for this.
I don't think we received anything, could you let me know (maybe PM if you don't want to post here) the email address you used to send?

    Paul.

You could have a responsive webapp (or PWA) but if you want "true" apps you can offload it to Cordova which will take your HTML / CSS / JS and stick it into a app frame and create actual apps. Wordpress is a bit more difficult as it uses PHP so you might need to have a loader that simply redirects to the right page.

Do you have exclusive access to the airfield(s) or do you need to tie into another API to schedule flights? It has been said before but there isn't all that much information to go by.
