Warning Warning!! UK2.net

Hi, i want to tell the world about my bad experiences with UK2.net since i dont want it to happend to other people who start up a new business.

I started my webshop four months ago, i chose UK2.net because they had a webshop that could be rented for low price per month and i could be up and running very fast.

I got my self an email: [email protected] and no problem with that at all, easy to make and for four months all email came in and out with no problems.
After 4 months i had more than 200 email business contacts and other important mails like wholesellers etc.

In the webshop that was easy to setup(I thought!) was a payment gateway menu and i chose HSBC and made a arrangement with HSBC and paid the £200 to set it up.

For hours i tried to connect to HSBC, and every time they called me back and told me about one problem after the other what i had to do before i could be approved.

1)no deciated ip address
2)no SSL
3)webshop doesnt support HSBC gateway, what???

I emailed UK2.net and asked if that is true, they tell me yes our webshop doesnt support HSBC payment gateway, we know it is in the shop menu, but it should really be deleted!!!

Then i started having problems with my webmail and one day all was gone!!and i had wrote to them again and told them i cannot check my email, and that my emails seem to just disappeared,I got several answers:

1)"we are currently changing the structure and in the future webmail cant be reached from the website as the system is overloaded and all emails will be deleted, but we can restore the entrance so you can make an backup", to late as it is already deleted!!!

2) "All email addresses starting with mail is not supported in our system "(had mine for 4 months!!!) [email protected] !!

Be aware of UK2.net they can give you a very hard time, their support system is really bad and it can takes days before they respond to technically problems.

ps looking for another host i can rely on in the future?

Kindly regards Thomas Clausen / mycoolgadget.co.uk

I've heard of a lot of similar stories about UK2 over the years. I've never had the misfortune of dealing with them, but a previous client of mine had a nightmare with their non-existent support.

As for another host, this will depend on your needs - what sort of storage space do you require, and what is your traffic like?

That name alone still leaves me with a bad taste .. nothing but a joke outfit .. Paid and ordered web names and hosting , waited waited and waitted 3 days later no email or nothing , checked credit card money taken so i try there support 2 days NO reply ..

I then get email saying all is live and can log in and start , but my email isnt recognised !!! This is the same email they emailed me saying its all done and with the Invoice

try support again and Yep 2 days NO Answer . a real joke of a set up

Cancelled the lot and went elsewhere , so then try and get money back 3 weeks later i eventually won my money back , and this only as i had every copy of everything and used there own terms and conditions against them ;)

But honestly if you want stress use them .. I hate them with a vengeance :)

Heres a brill strong language Video on them though LMAO worth a watch for sure .. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxYIF2a_ldw

So obviously they upset someone else LOL

I have to disagree, i've been with UK2 for 3 years and have 5 sites with them currently. Support has always been first class, downtime minimal, emails functional and being a web designer myself i've never had to use their pre bundled ecommerce solution ( wouldn't recommend anyone use a pre bundled ecommerce solution no matter who their host is)

It sounds like you have had a pretty rough time with UK2 but think your post may be a little harsh on them based on your experiences.

I think the rules of web apply with any host... don't buy cheap hosting, don't buy templated packages (especially ecommerce packages) and make sure the package you do buy outlines the support included.

I've been with UK2 for years and never had a major problem. Technical support is excellent and apart from one billing slip up it's all been good.

Admittedly their website could do with a revamp as the navigation is somewhat quirky but overall they appears to be no better or no worse than many other hosts.

1&1 have been pretty good for me. No downtime and e-mail had been fine. I did lose my webmail when I upgraded packages - but learnt from this and now download all my e-mails to Outlook. Not used their packaged e-commerce though - currently using Actinic Catalog (but changing once I decide on which web designer/developer to use for the upgrade).

Seems bad if they have HSBC in their menu but don't support it.

Bad the HSBC gateway integration is an absolute dog. Requires SSL, dedicated IP address and the error messages it generates when you're configuring it are useless ("error occurred") and you have to contact their support each time to find out what the error was.

Unfortunately they suck people in with a good rate.

The crazy thing was that they visited us as a cart vendor prior to launching their gateway to find out feedback about what we'd look for in a good gateway... but none of this appears to have got back to the people designing it.

I'd say that having 4 months of email deleted without notice is pretty bad.

Fair point on no SSL and no dedicated IP address for shared hosting. I guess that would depend on how much you're paying for your hosting.

It's a technical requirement to have an IP address for SSL so that's not a fault of UK2.

I'd say that you were not harsh enough based on

Grounds for instant money back if not compensation for time wasted.

As for;

all emails will be deleted,

Unforgiveable!

The absolute worst case here should have been, "Sorry email system crashed, you can access back-up at. . . " They simply did not care enough to rescue the files.

sounds just as bad as 1 & 1, sites were deleted by accident, accounts were frozen as bills hadn't been paid although they admitted they had not sent invoices. They even suspended our account every month for 6 months because another customer with a similar domain name hadn't paid thier bill

I did get a full refund when they wiped everything we had by mistake but they didn't bother to apologise
