VOIP Costs

Been looking thru a few threads on here about Voip and am looking for some end user experience and pricing before I ring a few companies tomorrow.

At the moment I just have a business mobile but would like a business landline number. As I work from home part of the week I dont want to give out the personal number.

What I think I want is a number that will redirect to my mobile at least for the first half of the week when I am onsite, and then the back half either to go to my mobile or to my computer or phone in my office.

So I have seen that a local voip number is about £2.40 a month.
But what are the charges for diverting calls to my mobile?
Also if I want to take calls at home would I have to have my computer running all the time ( im guessing yes for the software option ) but if i have a voip phone?
Also is there a way of diverting it to a voicemail for out of hours calls?

1. The cost of VoIP is as much (or as little) as you choose to pay dependent on the facilities you want/need.
2. If it's just a phone you want then £2.40 per month is cost for a basic service. I have an account with voipon that I use for a home phone which costs £29.99+VAT per annum and includes voicemail.
3. You don't need your PC switched on to receive calls if you have have a separate VoIP phone. I used a Gigaset VoIP/DECT phone at home which works well for me.
4. Calls can be diverted to another landline or mobile if no answer or your VoIP phone is disconnected. As you say you will pay for the call leg to the external number.

We would recommend www.voicehost.co.uk - we use them for the majority of our telephony needs. You can get a landline number from just £2.00 per month and divert to mobile for around 9p per minute. Further more their technology is very flexible and allows time profiles so you can set your number to divert to one or many destinations on different days / times. Out of hours you can set to divert to voicemail and receive messages by email and SMS alert.

If you want to pick calls up at home (at no costs) and don't want the computer running simply purchase a VoIP phone and calls can be delivered to this free of charge.

Also, it might be worth thinking about a call answering service for out of hours to ensure no potential opportunities are missed.

Another vote for Voipfone here. Been with them for around 18 months, their support was very helpful with setting up my phone and I've had no problems since. I divert calls on one of my number to my mobile when I'm not at home, it costs 10p per minute.

Too tired now to go into all the options of how to use hard and softphones - give us a call tomorrow on 020 7043 5555 and talk it through with support. It's actually cheap and easy but there are many options.

We use voipfone as above ^^^. can do everything you ask.

We started with softphone, but move to a 'hard' phone and frankly that makes things 100% easier, physical phones are designed to be easy to use.

We actually went with the Cisco 303 hard phone, rather than the Snom 300 provided by voiphone, mainly for cost purposes, it did mean I had to configure the Cisco myself - but being a techy that wasn't an issue, though for a plug and go solution for someone that doesn't like reading detailed instruction books I would recommend getting the pre-configured phone.
