"Virtual office" as company headquarters?

Hi,
I am just about to become a sole seller (or starting a very small company; still researching the question...). The problem is that I do not have an own property so I live in a rented house. Unfortunately the landlord would not be happy if I registered this address as the "headquarters of me/my company." or if the address got into "any kind of business directory" etc. But he would not mind "small business activity" in his property as long as it is not trucks coming and going each day :)
I noticed there are a number of companies offering quite affordable "virtual office" services and that some of them are really quite close to my place. Provided, that they provide a postal address/PO Box, can I register myself/my company to a "virtual office"? Is it allowed for a company to be headquartered in a "virtual office"?
Thank you

If it is a ltd. company then there must be a physical location to which people can come and inspect registers etc. - can be a local solicitor's office etc. - we had a company name on the wall at one for a number of years and paid them in a nice bottle of wine each Christmas.

that is your registered address, your operational address though can be virtual

Our company is entirely virtual, we use our accountants as our registered address and our data centre as our postal address. Those services are generally free.

We obviously can supply telephone numbers and services to suit any address :)

Our space rental in Canary Wharf costs a hell of a lot more than offices would :) But we also have access to meeting rooms and conference facilities and do training sessions there.

We have a dozen full time staff scattered about the UK and Europe - we use the technology we sell to run our own business. It means our overheads are minute so we can sell a telephone extension for £0.99

    Welcome to the future.

Well, I won't need meeting rooms, as (initially) the only emplyees will be me and my wife :) But, some storage place might be handy if it was in the Cambridge-Bedford area. Not sure yet though. We will start the business really very small first. Probably selling only on eBay first...
