Hi,

I'm new to this site...so please be nice :p I've helped to put together a viral marketing campaign for my company, and although the response was pretty good initially, hits to our website seem to have dropped off after a couple of weeks.

It's a pretty simple viral, one of our guys in the US office applied for America's got Talent and didn't get round the first round. We haven't really done much to promote the page on our website, we just got some employees to email people the know in the business. If any of you guys have any ideas at all they would be greatly appreciated...I'm having a nightmare trying to look into all the different ways to help it go viral.

You can't make it go viral. Viral happens because people like the story/video/app/game and spread it around. A story about a guy in the US who failed isn't really viral.

Remember the cadburys gorilla - it went viral, cadburys got massive exposure then ... zero.

As 10 yetis said, you can't predict when a viral campaign is going to take off if ever. And to tell the truth, it's not really that interesting a story. If you had a video of him thumping the presenter or he was cringingly awful you might get a glimmer of interest but apart from your staff nobody in the rest of the world evens knows who he is.

Sorry to crush your hopes but unless one of the very popular blogs/SN sites picks up on the story it's just not going to happen (if at all).

I totally agree with you virals have a habit of giving lots of exposure and then totally drop to zero, however if you can get a viral started you can use other forms of online marketing to boost the viral and keep it alive to a certain extent, although this is predominantly down to how popular it is to start with.

Kasumi - We haven't done much, literally just sent around the office and they passed it along to others in the industry.

10 yetis - Thanks for the URL, have bookmarked it and will have a proper look through a bit later.

fisicx - I understand that I can't make it viral, just need to push it out to more people. It's not the greatest thing, admittedly. Not as great as the gorilla anyway. I don't need to get anything tangible out of the viral, just to increase visitor numbers and explore how it works really, so it doesnt matter if everythng drops off to zero.

Facebook!

Create a facebook page and start to add people in the area and it should take a life of its own i.e. friends of friends might add it..if not you can continue to request people to add to the group etc..put a link onto the facebook page to the website with the information on as well
