Video Email

I was involved in developing the hardware and software for a video conferencing system years ago. One of the side products was video email.

My 2 cents? For business I don't see the value. If you want to leave a message for someone then I don't really see the video as adding anything to the message. Be it voice, text or email , sticking video on top is really just a nice to have.

For personal use I think it's got lots of uses. Much better than leaving just an audio message for your mother or your kids.

Anyway that's just my 2 cents/pennies.

@BTON Agency - What system are you using to put the video in emails? Also is it working for you in terms of engagement. Every time I've investigated adding videos I seem to come up against the fact that video content gets picked up by spam filters.

We've added a jpeg of a play button over a still from a video and linked through to a webpage before, but that's not ideal...

Just wondering your thoughts on video email?
Horrible in every possible way.

My phone pings when I get a message. I can do a quick scan and decide what to do. If that message is embeded in a video it will just get deleted.

It's not the technology that's poor - video conferenceing and skype and so are great tools but putting video on emails is just naff UX.

Even on a PC it's not much better. If you are asking a question I've got to write down the details to respond. I can't cut and paste or do any of the normal things I can do with words on the page.

Hopefiully this will go the same way as walk on presenters and autostart video on webpages.

We use a system called bombbomb - Designed for for the property market but can be adapted for other businesses.

Comes with a tracking system so can see when opened and played. Its really good for building relationships.

Not good for relaying lots of info but good if you come off the phone and send them an email to thank them for the time. :)

(Seems to avoid the junk email as well)

I'd much rather stick to linking to a remote video in the email.

Means you don't have to worry about playback in different browsers, on different devices or over different connections.

I think more modern alternatives already exist too (e.g. Vine, Instagram video).
