Video conferencing /Webcams etc

Have been spending quite a lot of time on the road recently to meet and greet people around the UK. I am looking at trying to be more enviromentally friendly, save time and of course money by using video / webcam technology instead.

Am interested in what other people do in this area. I have about 30 people around the UK from Scotland to Plymouth that I could do with 'seeing' and speaking to every six weeks or so.

Ideally looking for a low cost / free solution or maybe somekind of mid range solution.

Requirements will be from Board meeting attendence, to general business updates, to minor HR matters.

Have you thought about skype or msn messenger? Both offer webcam services...

We use Skype every day to talk to clients in Qatar, USA, the Netherlands etc..

The Conference facility is excellent to.

We also use the file transfer if needed mid conversation.

Lastly, you can show an area of your desktop too, which has also proved useful.

However a friend of mine wrote a paper on this, and not turning up at the office and putting in 'face time' will lead your co-workers to subconciously believe you are lazy and unproductive.

Thats not conjecture, its science!

Interesting. I've always found my days working from home to be my most productive as I'm not interrupted by everyday office "buzz".

In fact, after recently working from home for a day we decided that we should do it more often. ;-) Not sure if that says more about my office skills or my time management....
