Depends WHAT you're supplying, WHERE the supply will be effected, and to WHOM.

If you are exporting goods to a Turkish company (and ideally if they have advised you of their Turkish VAT number) then (in general) no, you would classify this as a zero rated supply.

If you could tell us what sort of goods (as there are a couple of special cases, for example mobile phones) that would be good.

ok, so Turkey has VAT numbers as well then. I wasn't sure if they were even part of Europe yet.

But assuming I'm sending basic stationary products from UK to Turkey, and if they do have a vat number then I wouldn't need to charge them?

No, Turkey is waiting in the wings to become a member of the EC. That's not to say Turkey doesn't have a VAT system of its own, of course.

Nevertheless, James of the Shire of York is correct. Before giving a definitive comment, he needed to know what is being supplied, where, and numerous other details.

And usually - James is again correct - the supply will have no VAT charged on it (either as zero-rated export of goods or an outside the scope supply of services).

In this case, the stationery goods are being transported from the UK to Turkey and are therefore zero-rated exports. No UK VAT is charged on the sale (even if the supplier is VAT registered!).

PS: Usually we wouldn't care whether or not the Turkish customer is registered for VAT in Turkey. Of course, we might have cared if the goods had been delivered to an EC country in which the Turkish customer needed to be EC VAT registered ... but don't get me started on that one, or we'll all regret it!!! Just be thankful I have not referred to the stationery goods not being stationary. Doh!

Turkey is not in the EU, but it is part of EFTA, however, if the goods are leaving the UK/EU, you dont chage VAT.

If goods/services supplied locally, then you do!

Hi,
I'm looking to provide Business Consultancy services in Turkey

The services will be provided from a UK company transacting with Turkish Entities (Banking).
The services will utilise London based consultants paid through the London Entitiy
We will also be using Locally sourced consultants (whom 'Invoice' back to the Parent company in the UK). The Locally sourced consultants are part of the Invoice to the Turkish Bank from the London Entity

Can anyone tell me which Invoice/Payment pairs require VAT / Sales Tax?

Many thanks,
Stephen
