I am working on a start-up currently and I finally got the domain name registered. It's really hard these days to come up with a suitable business name, as you the dot.com domain name to be available. I found this website wordoid .com and it's pretty awesome.

The way this tool work is you first type in a word and wordoid will come up with variations of it that look nice and sound great.

My final name that I confirmed isn't a direct result from this tool, but it works great for brainstorming.

What do you think? Would you use this tool if you had to come up with a new name for a startup?

Most registrars have a similar tool. You do a search and they come up with suggestions.

whois.domaintools.com offers suggestions as well.

That's not too bad a tool actually. As you say, I think it works slightly better when you already have an idea in place.

@Dan Izzard, you are completely right. For me for example, I am planning a business offering custom products online from Chinese factories. So I input the word 'custom' and I got many cool variations of this word.

Of course, I didn't take directly one of those suggestions. But the cool thing is that this tool kept my brainstorming session going on as I put more ideas in the tool. Before, without this tool, I got stuck and kept postponing this task.

I got a name now and once I launch in a few months, you will know ;)
