Do you think it might help if you were to read the CIPD code of conduct and then comment. Would that improve the quality of the content and thread and make for a much better forum?
Nope. You are not providing any useful context so no meaningful answer can be provided.

All we know is there was a telephone conversation between two people that cannot be corroborated which means there is no viable case to answer.

I’m assuming you are the white single owner of this business?

There is a CIPD code of conduct. A CIPD member must adhere to that code of conduct. "If" a CIPD member referred to the other person as a "white male" and referred to their business as "one man band" is this according to the code appropriate?

You really don’t get it do you. What we think is irrelevant.

If you think they were wrong raise a complaint.

But nobody here is in agreement with you. Especially as you don’t tell the whole story.

What I think is irrelevant. I was politely asking the forum their thoughts based on the written code of conduct. If the forum believes that it is appropriate for a CIPD member to use language as described then that is that. Perhaps I was not sure that it was not against the CIPD members code of conduct.

    I give up.

CONTEXT If the CIPD member said that it was inappropriate to refer to white men and one man bands, that comment would be approproate.

A CIPD member is someone who belongs to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) — a UK-based professional body for HR (Human Resources) and people development.

Being a member of CIPD means you're recognized as part of a respected community of HR and L&D (Learning & Development) professionals. Members have access to resources, training, networking, and professional recognition.

    So what?

You've clearly convinced yourself you are right, so why not take appropriate action?

    Just for clarity:

    - describing a pale-skinned male as a white man doesn't break any codes.

    - describing a business operated by a sole male as a one man band doesn't break any codes.

I'd lay good money that, when you lodge your complaint, the first question that will arise to establish whether it was appropriate or not , will be 'what was the context?' If you don't answer, that will be an end to the matter.

I’d appreciate some clarity on language used in professional interactions. When a CIPD member refers to someone as a ‘white man’ and described their business as a ‘one-man band,’ does this align with the standards of respectful and inclusive communication promoted by CIPD as per their code of conduct

In what context were the phrases used?

Eg: “is it a big company?” Reply: “No, it’s a one-man band”.

I’m questioning whether referring to someone as a “white man” and describing their business as a “one-man band” aligns with the CIPD’s standards on inclusive and respectful communication. Common usage doesn’t override professional responsibility. I’m seeking clarity on whether this language meets the expectations set out in the Code of Conduct—not whether it’s colloquial.

Yes it’s perfectly acceptable and is within the code of conduct.

Ask the CIPD. It's their code and their member.

Perhaps you should. Especially given your signature reads "Hodgson Employer Services, Employment Law Advice and Payroll Services"
I can only assume this is some weird psychological experiment to see how long a thread will continue when every responder gives the same or similar negative response which is completely ignored by the OP.

Only if she is a member. Unlike other professions there is no requirement to be a CIPD member
