Urgent help needed! Bandwidth exceeded, site down, lost emails!!!!

    Help! Website went down last night, "bandwidth exceeded" - have lost all emails/contacts etc. Rang the hosts at £1 per minute, they want original login details and I've lost them, so I can't even send a ticket! Was a free hosting package, but I also have a paid one with them (£79.99 per year) that I don't use, they will transfer IF I SEND A BLOODY TICKET but I can't - HELP PLEASE!! :eek:

    Think I may have sorted it - at £2.50 per minute (aaargh!) - tech support said they would issue a ticket and get it back on within 24 hours. That's Easy Int Solutions for you... Also discovered I HAD paid for it, the lowest package at £16 per year. Surely if I have all my website files on my desktop and I transfer host, I can just upload it again? (Sorry if I sound thick, this is so not in my comfort zone!)

    As stugster said, your domain name is a seperate issue to your hosting. Provided you have a login to control your domain name you can set up a new hosting package, and point your domain name at that.

    If your really stuck I'm sure theres some guys on here who run hosting firms who could help - any takers?

    HEY, IT IS BACK! I take back what I said about Easy Int Sol, they've come through this time! They've transferred my dead (paid) domain onto this one. OMG that was quick. Thanks for all your help, anyway. Think I'll still look into moving host, as that site gets a lot of traffic, can't do with it going down again.

    Hi I run a hosting company I can talk to you about hosting. Our servers are in a UK data centre so your site will be looked after with a > 99% uptime. Being local it also makes life easy for you when you need to remote access them.

    Paying £16 a year for hosting is not profitable for them, so the only way they make a profit is by premium rate numbers. Pay a little extra then you wont have to phone 0898 numbers at £1-£2.5 a min. basically you pay for what you get.

    He does, but is working away at the moment, I couldn't get hold of him this morning, and I hadn't a clue what to do. That particular domain was bought before he started his business, and we just left the hosting where it was, it seemed easier. Big mistake! Panic over, anyway, it's sorted now. :redface:

    I lost all my emails a while ago on a friday night - couldnt speak/contact for a response with my hosting company until normal working hours on the following Monday morning and ended up changing hosting companies there and then on that Friday night.

    New hosting company sorted my email problem that very night. No phone charges - Instant email support.

    Every time I've had cause to contact my new hosting company since then, they have returned my emails within 20 minutes even at 12.30am in the morning!

    Hosting technical support doesnt have to be hassle if you pick the right people. I pay way under £50 a year and the company I use is CSNM here on UKBF.

    ( there was nothing wrong with the previous hosting company - I just prefered the 24/7 tech support that the new one gave me)

    You will need to find out what your average monthly bandwidth usage is for the site, and then make sure that the hosting package you have/choose comes with enough bandwidth to cover the usage (plus a bit extra), that way this will not happen again. Also, regularly check your bandwidth usage, and if you notice it getting close to the limit, you may need to upgrade your hosting package.

    As for the premium rate support telephone number. I think that is disgusting!! Whether you are paying £1 per month, or £100, you should get the support you need, without having to pay extra for it. I would change hosts for that reason alone.

    Totally agree with you GarethPlevin. One of my clients web sites was hosted for a very very low price and the hosting company had its call centre in eastern Europe. They charged £20 a question regardless of what it involved.

    Needless to say we were out of there 24 hours later. The long time was to get approval for the move. That took longer than to move itself.

    Ginatonic are you staying with the same host or moving?
    How easy is it to move your site? Is there a way you can upgrade or change hosting plans without migrating?

    I try not to promote other people as you cant always rely on them.

    However.... I have a contact who is a host and he is really good. He is on MSN a lot (Free to contact him) and is contactable on phone/email also.
    He has been running a host for as long as ive known him which is a good 2-3 years so it doesnt look like he is going anywhere.

    Hes not the cheapest but he is reliable, and for what you have spent on the phones, i would imagine that would more than cover the cost.

    That's perfectly true! Spend a bit more on quality, rather than quantity, and take the time to pick the right host for you.

    Most hosts should send you a warning email if your diskspace/bandwidth is running low, so that you can do something about it, either by upgrading to a bigger plan, or decreasing file size etc,.
