I have recently purchased a friends Limited Company for a small sum. The company is a small food importer, only turning over about 10K a year and making a very small profit. I am the sole director and shareholder. My friend is up to his neck at the moment and in the process of emigrating to Latin America
I have access to the Companies House web filling account and I made the necessary changes to reflect the documents all parties have agreed and signed
However I have not been able to access the HMRC Government Gateway account in order to file Corporation Tax and setup MTD VAT. He has lost access to the email address he used to initially setup access to HMRC government gateway account. His accountant is not returning calls as a small amount of money is owed.
My question is this; how can I gain access to the HMRC Government Gateway account in order to file VAT and CT returns? I can get his signature and agreement - but without access to the email account used to setup the account nor his accountant I have hit a deadend.
This seems to be a massive oversight by HMRC - what happens if you lose access to the email address and are no longer in contact with the accountant??
If any one can offer some genuine advice that would be appreciated.
I am at my whits end and this should not be that hard - surely this is a common occurrence, and there is a simple solution?
