Just to add my two penn'orth, started with them but main problem was trying to contact them....they proudly announced it could only be via email!!! Finally left and even that was a struggle. I moved to No-IP in the US as I was using their utility to keep my site visible as my ADSL was not a fixed IP Address and they seem fine. Easy to use and reasonable pricing.

I'm of the opposite opinion. Got a dedicated server and support is excellent.

Sorry - I meant UK2.net. Should have been more specific!

We are currently looking for a dedicated server and have almost settled on 1&1 despite my unsettled feelings regarding them. And Fasthosts.co.uk are out of the question before anyone suggests them ;)

Never ever use fasthosts / 1&1 / 123-reg etc

I would look at http://www.csnewmedia.co.uk/ or http://www.peartreeuk.com/ for your server needs, reliable and pricing is competitive

With all due respect, as an IT Consultant I'm surprised you are even considering 1&1. You look to have a nice business and website, why risk all of that on a bunch of monkeys?

You are aware that 1&1 own Fasthosts?

Talk to Carl at http://www.csnewmedia.co.uk/ for a quality service.

Sorry to bring up this old topic again, especially if you have now found yourself a solution.

However I would recommend you stay clear of the larger providers who oversell and stress their networks. Not only does this result in sub-par levels of general service, but customer contact suffers terribly and there is nothing in the way of a meaningful relationship.

I would also steer clear of hosting companies that promise, for example, new data centre facilities then go quiet about them and do not answer any questions about them.

For the last 4 months I've been with VPS.net which Is run be the UK2Group and I recommend them greatly; especially the help from nick nelson there MD. so far my uptime has been at around 98% because a DoS attack. The reason I recommend them is because there they can't oversell them as they divide off the resources. I think you should have a look at them !!!

p.s knowledge of the Linux OS is crucial or get there managed support for a month to set you up and because its flexible you can scale it up or down when you need to.

I don't understand, can you explain how this works? :|

"Each VPS is made up of one or more units called nodes. A node is allocated a guaranteed share of CPU and RAM resources as well as SAN storage space and monthly bandwidth. The more nodes you assign to a VPS, the more physical resources will be dedicated to your system. Unlike many other providers we do not oversell or share any resources between machines."

From VPS.net

and they also use XEN which you cant over allocate resources with.

Our support team worked as their support. Science april 2010 they have another support, so I suggest you read reviews about them on different forums, about their new support quality, sla quarantee, possibilities of your $ refund, etc. Good luck!

Apologies for going cold on you with regards to your questions surrounding our data centre, I see in a previous post I failed to get back to you. At the time I didn't realise letting a generally unsuccessful thread fade would have such an impact on yourself. For that I can only apologise.

I don't really spend long enough on the forums as there is rather a lot to be done outside the walls of this site so I can only but apologise if some questions and queries go without a proper or timely reply. But if you do want anymore information, feel free to contact me. I'd be happy to discuss such matters with you!

Our site is currently undergoing a redesign, especially the data centre page(s), so advanced apologies if information there is still slightly thin.

To be honest... ALL web hosting companies have good & bad reviews.

Personally, I've had several domains with uk2... no issues. Now although I haven't PAID for web hosting. I do host some sites on a server within Redbus towers (uk2). No problems what so ever. This is a dedicated server though..
