UK trademark question

[The importer]

When I first started importing this product I registered the UK trademark as the manufacturer had only registered in their domestic non EU country.

Since then the original manufacturer has been bought out and the new manufacturer is saying that I should sign the trademarks over to them as I had no permission to register in the first place.

I’m just wondering where I stand with this.
