Has anyone used uk.prwebs.com and is it any good?

I'm using it as part of a public relations strategy as I've never understood what press releases had anything to do with SEO apart from building dodgy links an opinion I've had for nearly 10 years.

In my mind a press release should be sent out if there is newsworthy topics. Now I'm wondering because of the junk that prwebs gets put on it whether or not it is worth spending £250 to distribute news. Do news companies and journalists actually read what is put on prwebs or is prwebs just a money spinning company?

Thanks,

No.

And I can say that with authority because I've worked with journalists. There is far too much info being published daily for anyone to absorb and most of the stuff on prwebs is self promoting junk.

    Hi Forum Junkie

You can use news distribution services to distribute your content to the media, but it's pretty much a scatter gun approach and is unlikely to gain you any decent coverage in media read/listened to/watched by your target audience.

You don't mention who you are, what you do and what sort of audience you are targeting, so it's difficult to offer any meaningful advice.

In general it's much better to spend your budget/time in developing content likely to be of interest to your target media's audiences and developing relationships with the key journalists you need to influence/who you want to cover your story.

You can do this directly or use a PR who has experience of reaching your target audiences/in the sector/s in which you operate.

    Good luck

Agree, prweb is full of people doing it for links - nobody actually reads the stuff they churn out.

PR distribution sites only work if:

    1. The story already has strong media placement

    2. that story is being searched for by a Journalist already interested in covering it.

all these news sites (prweb, inewswire etc) have certain relationships set up, but most of them are low level news blog sites that get few visitors (some have shut down already). They save the best ones for the higher fees eg: you pay £40 and you;ll get 10 links, then if you pay at the higher tier, you;ll get 45 links and the top tier never working for hardly anyone eg: getting you on Google, BBC News, Daily Star etc as the ones who control the News sites will refuse to list the release because it was never a story to begin with. The middle-man (PRWeb) doesnt have a say in what's published, but still takes your fee.........

Cant confirm if PRWeb does a sales job for you, so I reckon each story determines what you'll get never mind what price you pay, although price determines what level you'll be submitted at eg: Press Association Distribution £249.

We used PRWeb 12 months ago, we paid £210, and got only 500 reads according to their stats that you aren't allowed to see.... You'll get a call from Vocus selling you there £2000 service so be prepared for that. It was the 2nd time we used PRWeb and got worse coverage 2nd time around for more spend.
