Some one just phoned me purporting to be from British Telecom saying this is one of their directories and for a set up fee of £269.00 and an ongoing monthly charge they can set up a two page website and get me listed on google search?Anyone had a similar experience it was all very confusing

Ask youself these questions. Have you ever heard of or used ufindus? Have you seen their websites ranking well in the SERPs? Wouldn't it be more profitable to spend this moiney on some direct marketing that will bring in paying customers?

On the 9th July 2008, BT announced the acquisition of Ufindus Ltd, one of the UK's leading online business directories by traffic. Following the acquisition, for an enterprise value of £20 million in cash,

It is BT owned, just like Yellow Pages was once. Part of BT Customerstreet.

Probably safe, but expensive. So the choice is the same as the rest, do you use up a £500 budget on 1 directory, or do you find 30 others and spread it out.......

This is a complete waste of money. I had a customer who once done something like this.

They took in excess of £1,500 from him before he realised that is was a total con, and he was getting no real value from it at all.
