They must be raking it in!

We have just used them for the first (and only) time as I was given a £20 voucher.
The meals were £8 more expensive than if I had ordered them directly from the restaurant.
There was a £3 service fee - I am not sure what service they provided, we ordered it on the app and then there were no delivery drivers so the restaurant ended up delivering it themselves.
£2 delivery fee - ok, we got it delivered so not a problem but they charged for something they did not even do.

So my voucher for £20, was really £7.

Im not bothered, I just think when you sort of lay it out like I have above it is just mental why anyone would ever use it.

The service fee is for them providing the platform for you to use.

If you take into account the fees the customer pays and the the commission from the restaurant, they must be about 40-50% of the order total.

The meals are more expensive as the restaurant tries to cover the commission, but it's a catch 22, because then ofcourse that equals an even bigger slice of the pie for Uber.

I personally don't use any of them as I like to think what I'm spending is staying in the local economy and not filling already bulging pockets.

I think we are probably a little bit older where we are used to ordering directly from whoever. But there will be people in their early twenties who probably automatically go to just eat or whatever.

For me it is easier to just ring up my local place than it is to log on and look through everything. But I cant believe how much they are taking. If it was a 2-3 quid I could understand but it was about a third of the order cost. Thats just greed.

Uber's commission for both riding & food is higher than other companies hence the reason they are a bit pricey but there are so many people out there who are desperate to work for them as they have a huge traffic. Somehow, I prefer hungryhouse or deliveroo over ubereats.

One of the biggest differences between "the apps" and "in-store" is the offers. I had a credit on Deliveroo they I needed to use, which I used on groceries. I paid £4.00 for something- two days later I saw it in the same supermarket and it was 2 for £5.00. Of course they bump up the prices as you're paying for the convenience, but it's the offers that you usually lose out on.

It's a big old chunk for the restaurant!

I had generally assumed that take away was easy money and sit downs less profitable, but in many cases that's incorrect

One if my customers is now opening an eat-in at their ice cream parlour - profit per customer will be far more than online delivery partly due to direct costs and partly because upsell is far easier

Not saying you’re fat or lazy at all, but there are a LOT of such people out there - it makes a mockery of the suggestion that people are ‘feeling the pinch’!
I did a bike ride to my office yesterday so was allowed a take away :)... My office is only a mile or so from my house so not the biggest bike ride but still.

Me I am just pissed off with semi cold meals, I like my food piping hot. Its quite funny that I ordered some Cornish Pasties online and they were delivered the correct day still frozen and lots of those packed dry ice things inside from 200 miles away, yet they cant deliver hot food within about 4 miles

That'll be the drivers that use an Aldi or Lidl freezer bag instead of an actual hot bag.

I've never received a delivery in one myself but you see the drivers queued up with them at the restaurants all the time.

Correct about the youngsters. My nieces will order from McDonald's on Uber Eats pay £5 plus on a McFlurry which costs about £1 rest delivery.
Know a delivery guy delivering for Uber Eats. He makes £800 plus (after costs) a week. He tells me about how he delivers to people less than 5 minutes walk from the take away. People making money from the new generations laziness

It is, quite frankly, insane what people will spend. I mean, I'm not complaining - Uber Eats has saved my business. We went on there a few weeks ago and have averaged over £600 a week in additional takings.

But yep, it's made. People will order a sausage & bacon sandwich for £3.50 and think nothing of paying another £3.50 for delivery - they'll pay £7 for one sandwich! Likewise we recognise some of the people that order, and some of them could walk to our shop in less than 5 minutes...but can't be bothered!
