nothing short sighted about it pal, I`ll guarantee at some stage the OP will be back there for a tyre or an exhaust etc.

they always do.

and please, don`t try and lecture me on customer satisfaction by reply. There is nothing anyone can teach me about it.

Not strictly true, I was about to leave on a long journey last month on a Sat morning when I developed a worrying noise (well let's say it was the car ;)) My usual garage was shutting at 11am due to lack of business :| so turned me away. I went to another shop a mile away and had fantastic service and they certainly won me over. Since then I have had 2 new tyres fitted that I had put off far to long, and they will be doing my MOT and any related works.

Just wish these places would have a free coffee machine, that would be great for customer satisfaction!

That's not necessarily true.

I had a slow puncture on a Saturday morning, took it to the local tyre guy and he pointed out a serious defect that i'd probably been running around with for weeks.

The tyre I wanted wasn't in stock there or at the other local branch and the spare was a little flat and although it was virtually brand new, as he pumped some air into it the valve broke.

In all it took 40 minutes.
The unexpected can always happen -but under the same thinking, you wouldn't expect them to turn away a tyre change at 3pm just in case a valve breaks or a wheelnut gets stuck and there's a slim chance it may take a lot longer that the norm :)

But it wasn't 3 o clock was it, it was 10 minutes from closing time?!

We don't know the tyrefitters position within the company.

For all we know he was seeing out his notice, was off to see his new born baby in hospital, or was smart enough to know that a 5 minute job ALWAYS takes much longer.;)

If he's the owner or manager then ok, give him some stick and avoid the company in the future but condemning them because of the actions of one person, who may be a junior employee(?) who simply wanted to get away on time is a little harsh.

I once had a potential customer tell me to f off when I cold called him. A week later I called again and he apologised, said he'd just had notification of his pending divorce pay out and he weren't happy. Sometimes people have a bad day at the office. That's life...:D

Tyre fitters may not be the richest people out there but they are making enough money. I've had real bad experiences with them too, but I think the physical labor exhausts them and this is what makes them give snide remarks when approaching them at closing time. Well everybody can have a bad day at office.

I had similar a while ago (in this case van tyre went on a Weekend while at a motorbike off-road event.) Ended up finding one tyre place a way away that would do it and did end up staying open a bit late for us - though I needed a whole new tyre.
The next person did get turned away, because the bloke (who was the boss) wanted to go home, I presume.

There are usually mobile tyre technicians that can be called out to fix punctures. These generally DO offer an out-of-hours service and as they're mostly one man bands, will be more willing to make an effort - presumably partly because they've got more chance of losing money keeping premises designed for 8 people working open 20 minutes later.
