Lanarkshire IT Services

hi all

ive noticed on the forum that people ask IT questions on a "as needed" basis. this works fine and there are a wealth of experienced people on here ready to answer questions.

ive also noticed that there is no "how to" section and wondered if people would be interested in that.

i have loads of tutorials with screenshots on how to install / configure / maintain windows client / server operating systems inc XP, Vista, Server 2003 and SBS 2003, im also working on some server / sbs 2008 ones as well. open source guys look away now - lol.

the tutorials would benefit everybody, me included, to enable everyone to get experience in these products and see how they operate in everyday business environments.

so before i commit to posting, let me know what you think

remember be kind!

regards

I can do many if you like, did not mean to be negative in any way, it was a simple wonder, glad to know that your hard work can be of benefit and appreciated.

hi all

OK i have wrote my 1st tutorial on installing SBS 2003

However the forum only allows 8 images per post and my tutorials have more than 8

I was wondering if the forum admins could extend this for the tutorials?

Thanks for all your comments, and support.

The site is a kind of idiots guide, BUT there will be more coming.
(The idea is if someone has limited knowledge, send them there! great for helpdesks!

I also plan to upload some e-book guides, writing now as we speak.

I want to make the courses available for free, with an idea others can contribute.
There will soon also be a rating system so people can judge the ability required before using the course. Its a way of trying to banish peoples fear.
In time there will be other courses covering a variety of topics. I aim to being with to produce at least 1 a month.
The later ones will not have a voice over, only captions, same format as the msn and email courses.

The hope is that advertising will help fund the venture.
Clearly if the above fails, then free courses will still be available, BUT i would soon have to start charging for others.

Hope you enjoy :)

I'm not being negative, I just expected content at all levels.

WTF is this supposed to mean? ... "content at all levels"...do you mean you want content that would only be understood at PhD level by people at MIT? That is one level. Or maybe you just want to go on sniping and carping at someone else's good idea, hard work and welcome contribution?
Get a life or move on.

you got the wrong idea, and I will not come down to your level. My courses have been in place and available long before I was aware of his dummies courses.

i dont understand this

You know i left this forum years ago due to the attitude of people on this site.

I came back because i decided i was going to change the way i did things with my site.
Well done to the chap who offered to produce tutorials for free, i did actually pm him to see if i could help.

There is no competition.
My site is free. Providing free courses and advise.
I apologise if to some people the courses are a little basic, it just means perhaps you should seek other sources of training.
I try as best as i can, but ultimately i never will be able to cater for everyone.

I have nothing further to add.

Many thanks

Love it. Trying to take the high ground, "I will not come down to your level" when you have been snarking contributors here, only serving up your offering as a me-too-me-too gee-gaw after your bad faith has already being commented on. Of course I've got the wrong idea: I don't see you offering anything near as useful as the others or as you imagine. I do see you badmouthing and slagging unnecessarily. Silly moi.

Sorry Lanarkshire; it's a great idea, and a good thread. I just saw it being derailed by an egogeek and it momentarily got on my chesticles.

i would like to add to my last thread, i do apologise for the "me to" thing Lancashire, it certainly was not intended. Very well done, and keep up the good work.
As with you i am keen to help.

Keep up the good work chap.

Thank you also to everyone else for the kind support.

i dont understand this

You know i left this forum years ago due to the attitude of people on this site.

I very nearly did the same, especially when they start in their packs (as they often do) but this only happens if other users allow it to - the moderators don't seem to give a monkeys uncle about it unfortunately.

The longer I'm on here, the easier it is to see through it - quite often these people have nothing of any more merit to add to a post than to take side swipes. It's inept, it's immature and it certainly wouldn't encourage me to use any of them.

The more that decent posters stand up against it, the better in my eyes.

Do you ever get the feeling that the world doesn't really consider you to be that important?

I always laugh when I hear someone on the TV proclaiming that they will “never, ever use this airline again”. As if the airline really gives a shice! :)

Hello Dave. Nice you are back.....:):):):)

That, is a matter of opinion

Re your comment Mr Mortimer, i do not consider myself important in any which way shape or form. But my time yes.
I rather fancy i give the world more than i take from it.
If you have nothing nice to say, would you be so kind as to keep it to yourself, thanks

The point that Mr Mortimer obviously fails to comprehend, is that if decent posters are turned away from the forum one by one, what's left is.......

.....well, people who can do little more than come onto a thread to make puerile, catty comments.

And oh, what a wonderful, useful forum it would be. ;)

Hi Al. I have just read my message back to myself, and I can understand how you may have been offended by it. I wrote it too fast and without a thorough enough inspection. I apologise to both you and Silky.

I was actually trying to make a sarcastic comment about how the owners of UKBF do not care about individual members, and that they probably care more about the entire crowd who constitute the whole membership here, and that one or two individuals do not really matter much to them.

So now I'm in the shice with the UKBF-powers-that-be! So what? I don't care as long as Al still loves me! :)

Luv you back me darlin' Dawg! :) <scratches the Dawg around the back'o'the'ears>
