Trading days reduced

How is everyone doing? As we all struggle with Covid and intermittent lockdowns no doubt we’ve all suffered directly or indirectly.

As the funds dry up for many our consumers with Black Friday and Christmas shopping looming over their heads, priority would be possible given to Christmas shopping now.

I’ve decided after the current lockdown is uplifted I’m thinking of reducing my days off trading from 4 days to 3 days. We’ve seen a dramatic drop of footfall during first post lockdown and now. As we are in a niche sector specialising in short date, perhaps with lesser or days of trading may get them rushing though the doors. It did work 4 years ago when I did the same from 5 days of trading to 4 days.

it won’t be a permanent change, just a temporary move hoping to increase the sales and footfall until it things go back to normal.

Rubbish. We’re about to stick all three of our guys on full furlough for the first time.

We manufacture for (mainly) the commercial poultry industry, along with a significant chunk for the ‘float-tank’ industry. Float tank centres are on their arse worldwide.

Commercial poultry needs planning permission & the local council planning department have decided they can’t make decisions whilst they’re sat at home on full pay! So very little being built or refurbished.

We have a trickle of other stuff coming through & a decent sized cushion in the bank so we’re using our time to redevelop & improve a few products in readiness for F knows what!

Wish we had those eureka or an enlightened moments where we could steer ourselves out of this mess. I guess for manufacturing it’s difficult when it’s based on supply and demand and with many restrictions are in place it’s difficult to manoeuvre pass these points

Ecommerce businesses doing well. The other business not doing well - the US has an impact and likely be months or years to get back to expected level of deliveries.
The world is as it is, that business is in no danger of going under. Just may take a few extra years to pay off its debts.

Food industry is generally doing well but I don’t see normality resuming until another six months

Depends which part of the food industry you look at.
I can think of several places I have used that are likely to not be around next year. Heck, they could already have gone under with lockdown lite.

I think takeaways are here for good. So many underperforming takeaway services that barely scraped it through have done exceptionally well and continue to do well even now

So with more competition they are doing well now when they barely scraped it through previously?
Will demand remain as high once population starts getting vaccinated and other dining options present themselves?

I think the initial lockdown has made many people lazy and the takeaways that were always busy increased their sales further and for those who were desperate to use these takeaways were forced to try others due to waiting time etc. So since then many takeaways have done exceptionally well. I haven’t heard a single takeaway that has struggled since April

I can recall some Chinese places that didn't do so well for a time earlier this year. Haven't heard if they ever recovered from racist customers.

Took me a second to work out what you meant by racist customers...
Some people!
