To anyone who deals with trademark law.

By chance I have decided on a name and logo that is similar to that of another business located in belgium, I would like to use said logo which is similar but not identical and name which is the same as a brand for a pre startup business I would like to launch soon that will be based solely in London and the UK.

As far as I can tell there's no registration of any trademark with the same name on the UK. I would like guidance before starting the registration process.

Bonus if you can also advise on which categories are necessary to protect against use on branding such as company clothing, advertising etc.

it would probably be cheaper and quicker to self register in the UK and fail than get advice and potentially fail!

Initial questions:

Are you realistically likely to come up against them in marketing terms?

Do you get the sense that there 'brand' is something that they are very proud/protective of?

Are the relevant domains available?
