A couple of solutions found by Googling "toshiba bios backdoor".

1 - It turns out that if the first five bytes of sector 1 (the second sector) of a floppy in drive a are "4B 45 59 00 00" then you can bypass the password (type enter when asked for the password and you will be asked to set the password again).

2 - Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot

3 - See also cgsecurity dot org for another idea.

Let me know how you get on.

CMOS is probably the only way. The use of a floppy wont work as before the computer gets to POST to check for devices (if the bios checks for usb devices at all) the password is required.

what confused says about the cmos battery is probably the only way to get around this... and you will have to remember to dump the voltage of the capacitors as well!

P.S. it may work, chances are it wont, but apparently Toshiba have a backdoor password set: "Toshiba" without the quotes... Don't quote me on this, the internet told me so (and we all know how accurate the internet can sometimes be!)

P.P.S. The internet also says:
KeyDisk will reset the BIOS password on Toshiba laptops.

[BUT I HAVE NOT TESTED THIS, NOR HAVE I TESTED THAT LINK FOR VIRUSES!]

I accept no liability :)

None of the solution will work when you have Power-on-Password. Newer models have embedded security chip. You have 2 options, 1, call Toshiba Technical support, they have to verify that you are the original owner then they might provide you with backdoor password.

2nd Option is to replace the motherboard or security/bios chip.

Cant say as I recall ever having had this problem with this laptop so cant say for sure. Sounds like you have had the problem so I have no reason to doubt what you say, its just you mentioned newer laptops have the lock and this isnt a new one ;)
