Too good to be true?

Hi guys,
I have come across a business for sale. It is a website that offers 3rd party services to a bigger company just selling there merchandise. I have a link to it here. Could some explain to me if this is a load of rubbish or actually has some honesty to it.

Because to be honest i wouldnt sell something like that in a million years. Please do have a look at the link thanks.

It comes up on your browser because your browser history has already found it. You can either type the web address and replace the dot eg type 'dot' com instead or type the full business name.

I suspect it is an affiliate marketing site that has already been set up by someone who could not make money from it themselves so is trying to make money by selling their website (which doesn't work ?). Affiliate marketing is essentially promoting other peoples goods and making a 4-8% commission on the sales. In my experience it doesn't work and/or is extremely difficult to do (too much competition, blogging, advertising, etc).

Without being able to see the exact site it's obviously difficult to give any objective recommendations.

Who in their right mind would sell a business that generates £12k per year for £3k, which "requires literally no time at all to manage".

I worry about people like you. If you even raised the question ... you're a nice target for millions of the other cons out there, particularly ones involving buying online "businesses".

There are so many cons, in fact, that I started a non-profit forum about these back in 2010 and we have hopefully saved thousands of people like you from these dumb "opportunities". For some of the latecomers it was too late, but I'm amazed at how often people have shelled out $30K, $40K, $50K for a bloody template! And I'm amazed at how often they buy junk in Flippa.com (most Flippa listing are junk or scams) expecting to make money online or "flip" the website for a profit.

If you do not know the ins and outs of doing due diligence on these "opportunities", get the hell out. Even if you are an expert, you'll lose money big time. I'm a past master at DD on websites - the grandfather of DD if you like - and have bought dozen of online businesses since 1995, from some costing a few hundred to ones costing a few hundred thousand.

But the cons have become so sophisticated now that even I would probably lose money 50% of the time if I were playing the game today - the sub $100K market is so, so scammy!

Go do something else with your life than buying an online business!

Its basically because its all 'potential' rather than actual. These business for sale sites are littered with websites which are newly established which have neither customers nor revenue.

Yes, always stick to the rule 'if it's too good to be true it probably is'. Well done for asking first here before paying for the website. Always analyze business accounts, traffic levels, sales and bank accounts for at least 6 months before buying any business. Don't agree when someone doesn't want to disclose these details. Grow a thick skin, don't take negative comments personally, and have a business plan.
