Is there a basic formula for

Amount of traffic vs Revenue from Advertising

i.e. I get 1,000,000 hits a day I should expect ROUGHLY £xyz

This is market research, the site I have in mind is popular media based and would be attractive for anyone looking to target 18-24 yr old yuppies and students for products/services etc...

I know that exact amounts will change, but i'm looking for BALLPARK here.

And if there are any resources out there for this I will be triply grateful!

Your simply asking the impossible.

How long is a piece of string?

No one can possibly answer that. It depends on tons of factors... There's so many other questions or answers you need to give before anyone can start to give you a "ball park figure"

What type of advertising? Banners, skysxcrapers, adsense, afiliates. Where will the adds appear on the page? Do they rotate? Are these unique or returning visitors?

So many variable you can't even begin to make a guess...

However, banners are typically under 1% CTR so if you make £10 per 1000 clicks in theory you could make £100/day.

I envisage using a service like btbuckets so adverts and content in general will be targeted towards the individual visiting.

Banner ads, prominent positions.

£10 for 1000 clicks is dreadful. Considering the traffic would be targeted and I imagine most of these people would be paying £1 - £30 per click on PPC

My mistake, that should be £10 per 1000 impressions. Still just about the worse type of advertisng there is, rates can be as low as £1/1000 impressions.

I wouldn't charge per impression. Perhaps a one off fee for having it there, then more for subsequent clicks.

CPI is weaksauce and would rely on my honesty, CPC is measurable and I think would help build a stronger relationship with my advertisers.

I think how I'll do it is calculate what their PPC costs are (for their keywords and average position) then charge accordingly.
