Themeforest Wordpress Site

Hi all,

I am considering downloading a theme from Themeforest for $59, and know that it is a Wordpress site.

Once I have paid for the theme and downloaded it, what are the steps involved for making this site 'live' and creating a login wordpress admin dashboard to edit the content?

Login in to wordpress.
Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New
Upload the theme and activate
The site is now live with the new theme

But....

Don't buy the theme yet until you a really sure what you want the site to acheive. The theme is the least important part of the site - the content and navigation is what brings in the customers not the theme you are using.

Oh so I create a new Wordpress account first, then you upload the theme from there. I will send you the link once I am allowed, found a great theme. Yes I understand it is not the theme that is important but I feel that having a good theme to start with at least gets you heading in the right direction.

The content on your site needs an awful lot of work. If you want to know why, join as a full member and get a review. Changing the theme won't make the slightest difference.

Aperture isn't a good theme for your business.

Branding isn't important for small businesses. All you need is your company name at the top of the website and address in the footer. Most people don't care about your logo, colours and fonts. All they want is the products or services on offer.

Branding is important regardless of business size. Agreed it is more important for bigger businesses, but your branding should be part of your marketing mix regardless of business size.

A good brand image can also give the impression of being a bigger deal than you are.

That theme is horrendous for your business, it's too flashy when you need simple, easy to read content, I like themeforest as anyone can get started on a website for "peanuts" but it means people care more about the design than the content, you need to find a simpler theme which makes your content stand out and has good call to actions.

Why is it?

How many builders bother with branding. Walk into any independant store a see if you can spot the branding? Pick the the phone to a company and branding is irrelevant. Without looking can you describe the UKBF logo?

Focus on the business of making money and let the branding develop with the business.

I'm not saying you NEED branding to be successful - most builders work off of word-of-mouth referrals so they don't need it so much. But having a solid brand helps with recognition of your business, and implies a more professional outlook. No I couldn't tell you what the logo is, but I could likely recognise it as the UKBF logo, which is kind of the point of branding.

Service and product of course come first, and providing the right information on each web page is more important than making it look pretty. But it's very small fry thinking to say you don't need branding, especially if he wants to grow his business.

Have to say I completely agree with quest on this one, if you have any wish to grow a business branding is important.

It's is much more than just a logo and look, it can be a name, how the business is perceived by others, a business strategy, anything to make you stand out from the crowd. So builders do rely on branding, usually through word of mouth and reputation. Speaking to people on the phone and having a recognised brand name/good reputation is also going to help. Establishing a brand strategy can help give direction to any business, big or small.

To clarify though Simon, I agree with what the others have said; that theme doesn't fit your industry well at all. It looks flash and it's very visual, but you need to make visitors immediately aware of what you do, how much it costs, and how good you are, i.e. why they should choose you and not just bounce back to Google. That theme doesn't do that.

Cheers,

Ryan
