Thankless Task

Before I get totally assimilated by the mod-borg, I just want to tell all you non-mods that if you saw the amount of cr*p the mods here have to delete every day you would never moan about the mods again.

Alan, Rob and Ozzy are doing a great job of keeping everything tidy. Believe me, if they did nothing for a couple of days this place would be totally overrun by spammers.

It's because they keep on top of it that you just don't realise how much they do, bit of a catch 22.

Right, that's me done with my whinge. I'm going over to the dark side now and I hope I can do as good a job as these guys have been doing.

I can well believe the amount of rubbish. I usually log on here in the evenings (too busy during the day!), so I guess most has gone before I get here.

It's a delicate balancing act to keep this forum open and accessible, as that in itself makes it open to spamming, but vital to keeping the readership and membership to a maximum. Could new signups be restricted to posting to a newbies board for a few days or a week even? That would put off the one-off opportunistic spammers.

I don't think so.

We should afford the new member the priority right to participate in the forum, rather than 'quarrantine' them until they've 'proven' they're safe to integrate with other members. By adopting that course the mod's would simply be pandering to the spammers. They get caught out soon enough anyway - or, cop such an intense ribbing from a few of us they disappear.

Having just launched our own forum yesterday, I'm enjoying the power-trip and so far only nuked one spam.

The tempation to edit/delete whingers posts is unbearable too. Just one keystroke and the pain has gone. No future there though, I think you must have the confidence of taking the rough with the smooth.

Duane I would never moan. I am admin on my own site that has nearly 4,000 members on it and the amount of posts I have to delete is rapidly increasing (very often people spamming on there as well).
