Good afternoon guys. Has anybody got any recommendations on acquiring a good but low cost phone service. I do not need an all singing all dancing service just a service that can act like a virtual assistant or call forwarding service. Please advise

I support the suggestion of @kulture: VoIP services cost much cheaper than a traditional telephone service + they can really provide you with the functions similar to a virtual assistant. Apart from call forwarding, some VoIP providers offer other useful functions like voicemails, call screening, call blocker, recorder, etc. Here is a list of top UK VoIP providers for businesses, check it out to see good options, maybe something will suit you the most out of the list. I might seem biased, but I believe it can be really helpful for you.

I just got a Grasshopper account to redirect a business landline number to my mobile. There are various pricing options but basic package is £9 a month + 6p per minute. Nice intuitive platform to manage your account from as well

Yes VoIP is the way to do it, and it seems that everyone and his dog is now an expert on it. Most of these 'experts' just resell other people's products while claiming independence.

The best advice is to use a provider that is a member of ITSPA - the trade organisateion for VoIP and modern telephony in the UK - and, in particular, one that holds its quality mark - that way you know that they meet a high standard and that your telephone numbers and service are protected.
