I thought it would be nice to have a happy telemarketing thread sharing some successes and tips for others.

Not for spamming services or arguing the toss about whether telemarketers or anyone in business who does cold calling should be strung up by their toenails, but simply, what has worked well and why in the spirit of helping others.

So I will kick off with a success for this week and my story is about a little campaign for a Business Coach.

What is refreshing for me is that this chap spent a lot of time planning who he wanted to approach and why. He put a lot of thought into why the people he wanted to approach would buy his services and came up with a very good offer to talk about over the phone.

His particular campaign was successful in that two hours of calling delivered him with 5 appointments. He was very happy with that.

So what happy successes can you share this week?

Maxine, what a great idea!

I won my first tender this month, working for myself. The company carrying out the work is a one man band that has had to employ a second engineer to cope with the influx of work.

The initial contract is worth £6000 with the potential of it being extended to £21,960.

The thought and planning on the part of the client is such a key driver in the success of a sales campaign. I've seen far to often a company spending time and resources to source a sales team but not even touched on the training, product knowledge and time needed to make a campaign successful.

Be really good if we could get some success stories from businesses who have used telesales or telemarketers, rather than just from the Tele guys and girls themselves. It only ever seems to be the telesales members themselves who have anything positive to say about it on this forum.

With the huge amount of telesales staff and calls used, someone must be getting a good return on it, otherwise it would have died out years ago.

Completely agree with the above point. As with all marketing, its not so much what you do, but how you do it.

You could use the best telesales staff in the world, but if you are trying to sell the wrong product, to the wrong market, at the wrong time, or at the wrong price, you ain't gonna have much luck.:)

Excellent point; this is why it is always said that the best person to sell a product is the businesses owner - as they know the product/service inside out.

Training and product knowledge is half the battle, the rest is tensity and phone selling skills

Absolutely!

Mind you I also frequently see, especially in IT sector, too much emphasis on product knowledge yet zero thought to who it appeals to the most and why so that people can really talk about benefits properly :)

This business coach was really thorough. He researched every prospect record online first reading websites to find out about businesses. Great to see some patience and care rather than slap dash approaches :)

Great thread, telemarketing is something we are looking to introduce in the future, so great reading :)

Yay :) what have you got in mind? Perhaps we can all collectively give a few tips :)

Obviously it might not be appropriate to say entirely what you want your approach and plan to be on public forum but perhaps there are a few general things people my able to help with :)

Montaine, with the contract for the sole trader what would you say your client did to help you achieve that if anything?

Well, on this tender I did all the hard work selling it but they went down to the site for a meeting for me. It was basically an excuse for the customer to see if they liked the look of them.

Really, what I really want from my clients is that they do their jobs properly, provide excellent customer service and no reason for complaints. I also don't want them saying yes to something and then after I have agreed it with a customer changing their minds.

If they're on the ball like this then this makes my job easier as I am overflowing with references for them, they have experience of various different sites, they get on well with customers etc.

Great thread

Ive just outsourced my telemarketing to an external company. We have a specific product for a specific market and ive spent some time in providing the tools and training for my outsourced partner.

We are currently in the initial trial period but so far ive already closed a sale in the first meeting that was booked and the 2nd meeting is a potentially a bigger order and looks even more promising.

Hopefully they will continue to deliver quality appointments and im already planning 3-6 months ahead with the intent of ordering more meetings for my sales team.

So, in short, im very impressed - so far, so good.

Well done xylen :)

Telecoms leads and appointment setting is not for the faint hearted especially in a large city so you must have done well with your training and support!

What % of your profit will you expect to re-invest in telemarketing with this partner out of interest?

:)

Hi Guys

Thanks Maxine for starting a more postive thread. Its good to see a few people who have used outsourced telemarketing giving positive feedback as well.

My good news for the week has been the extension of a contract we've been working on for the last few months. Its an appointment generation campaign for a national apprenticeship company providing apprenticeships to young people across the country. We've been arranging appointments for their Employment Engagement Officers (!) from 15 colleges to sign local businesses up to take an apprentice on. Two distinct areas of IT and Accountancy at the moment with Estate Agency coming on board over the coming months.

Its grown from a 100 appointment trial campaign taking several weeks to us generating on average 120 appointments each week for the last 3 months.

The closing rate varies from college to college as expected; Tamworth are clearly leading the way with a 90% conversion from our appointments (sadly, poor old Liverpool's closing rate is only just touching 20% but at least we know its not down to the quality of our appointments)

As we charge on a per appointment basis its vital we maintain the quality levels through various checks, call recordings and confirmations.

Its going in the right direction with 8 full time staff on it which by the end of this month will be more likely 11 or 12

So theres my good news for the week. Long may it continue

Cheers

I outsourced telesales to a company in India ( came off this forum) and after the first week, they exceeded targets.
Nice, freindly people to work with. As they exceeded target, ( this was only one person) we are now going to have three, and continue building over the next few months.
