Hi telemarketing experts,

I am in the IT business and am considering offering FREE IT healthchecks to local businesses.

The aim is to get in the door as I believe at least half of appointments would become regular customers.

I would like to have a pay per appointment arrangement with a telemarketing company.

The qualification would be quite broad. Must have an 029 prefix (Cardiff - to start), have at least 2 computers, and no IT Department.

A friend of mine had a similar deal run through india. His qualification was much more stringent and he paid £70 per appointment. He said it worked quite well.

Can I have your comments on this idea?

Thanks,

I have asked him about 5 times over the last 4 months for the contact number of the company and he keeps telling me he will dig it out for me but maybe he doesn't want to give it to me?

Michael, could you tell me what you think about the idea. Sounds like it will be negative but since your an expert, maybe a negative from you is actually a positive for me and I ditch the idea.

thanks,

In my opinion you are in a flooded market there are a lot of people doing what you are attempting to do, that said its not all bad news, my advice would be to focus locally first, that will be a key factor for many SME's, that you can be their within minutes!!
To make it worth while you may want to consider uping the lower level of PC's companies have to say 5 or 10, how much will 2 PC's really make you?
You should consider the fact that No work is better than 1 job that is more trouble than its worth. And would your Free consultancy time be paid back by a company of this size in the long run let alone making a real profit.
My advice would be to bring someone inhouse, yet a young wiper snapper looking for temp work have a go, I am sure you know some 18- 23 year old with the gift of the gab! this way its cheaper and you get to see the response, get him to arrange appointments for the free test this way you will get in the door. I would also suggest going to my website and downloading our free basic script, it should be short and sweet and to the point.

I hope this is of some help, call me if you want more advice, that goes for everyone.

'Last but not least giving things away for free is rarely a good solution for numerous reasons.'

Could not disagree more with this statement. I think this is a great offer providing people know what they will get specifically. What a great way to demonstrate your knowledge and the way you work.

I am always urging my clients to give something away on their web sites, information has a value and good information can go round the web like a rash.

I give most of what I do away and I really do not think people value it less. I also have a spooky way of knowing when to back away and when to charge.

Hi Sean

I'm not going to even try and compete with anyone here on price or how many seats I have in a call centre. I'm certainly not the cheapest telemarketing company on UKBF or anywhere.

However what I do have is experience of telemarketing for IT maintenance companies, one in West London, one in East Anglia and one in Oxfordshire. All of them were successful ie resulting in a good number of appointments and paying business for the customer.

From my experience data is king. You need to make sure any companies that are called are more than 5 office employees and less than 50. Less than 5 and it's a friend sorting the network. More than 50 and there is an IT dept. I would also recommend not bothering with schools or Local Govenment.

As mentioned in a previous post, it is highly competitive, meaning there is a huge amount of initial legwork involved for any telemarketer in terms of call volume that is why the first month would allways be on a fixed rate. After that we are happy to look at basic and commision.

I think in your industry 70 pounds per lead is going to buy you someone who will just try to get you in front of anyone in order to make it pay for them, which will result in you wasting time and becoming disillusioned, the investment in a good lead I would say is double that.

I'd like find out a little more about your company and your USP's to see if we can help you. Drop me a PM if you are interested and I'll call you tomorrow

I hope this helps

Jonathan

This is actually a nice business to start of. Many are interested to take your project. I used to work in a call center but quit due to time constraint. But have been doing home-based call center now for nearly 2 years, too young.:)

If you wish of having home-based call center agents, just let me know. Goodluck!

>>Nowt like digging up 3 year old threads. He is probably a multi gazillionaire by now living on a small island in the Bahamas.

Lol at this comment from Simon-M. I just logged back in to UKBF after about 20 years (original post was 2005). Not a gazillionaire yet but I do have a few more tokens than I did in 2005 and not the Bahamas but I do live in (mostly) nice weather near the beach (Algarve). 😂
