Hi,

I have an idea for a product however not being anyway technical I would need a engineer to design the product, drawing etc

Does anyone know if there is a resource for this, I wouldn't want to share the idea and potentially lose it, should I insist on a confidentiality agreement?

I expect you should have an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) in place and signed before giving out details. Most professionals would expect to have to sign this and some even have it in their terms and conditions. I've never had anyone awkward about signing one.

Also it makes it difficult to patent later on if it has been in the public arena and an NDA covers you there too.

there are loads of proptotyping companies and yes get a non disclosure agreement.
but remember that a product only sells if you can make it for a good price so dont go flying off spending thousands on design without first checking roughly what price it can be made for first.

Yes totally agree on cost, hopefully I can use some existing technology and adapt it for this use.

Draw a picture of it and put on some measurements.

Take it to an engineering company and ask them how much it will cost to do the CAD drawings and manufacture the product.

I dont know if you'll find someone to do that for free as a design engineer will wanting paying for their time - easily £20 p/hr

I think you will be lucky to get change out of £50 - £100 per hour.

Might be an idea to find a local engineering company, go and meet them and show them the idea (with an NDA), and then see how it goes.

You never know, you maybe able to find a local company that will be willing to work with you, on a percentage share, they do the design and prototype and you market it?
