Tech/services used by modern accountants

Hello all,

My accountant is a bit old school and handles a lot of the business offline in terms of signatures.

She is wondering if she's missing out on modern services.

One for the accountants. Do you use services for say digital signatures? Do you password protect documents sent via email? How do you handle accounting in terms of technology?

My accountant uses a portal for delivering the final accounts and allowing me to sign digitally.

Unfortunately the filte size limit means I cannot use it to upload the end of year data.

Mine does everything online. Digital signatures and e-filing. Much simpler.

We had an online portal with electronic approval of documents and introduced that nearly 20 years ago, so it's not exactly modern technology. One big plus was that when a client called asking for (yet) another copy of accounts or another document they'd already had we could simply point them at the portal so they could download it again

No passwords needed.

Even before that we'd gone pretty well completely paperless. We could access any document from our desks while on the phone to a client if we needed to. We haven't had a photocopier this century. It used to be easy dealing with callers claiming they could reduce our photocopying costs! Well start at zero and go down from there!

I think that it's fair to say that your accountant is missing out quite a lot, but some people are happy with the older ways of working or don't want the expense or learning curve of changing.

As a basic file sharing folders are the way to go instead of emailing back and forth for signatures- Dropbox or One Drive etc

Much the same as David haven't used paper signatures (or paper) except when absolutely essential since I set up the practice in 2002.

For signatures I use Adobe Acrobat Sign.

Dont have any paper files, filing cabinets, or a photocopier.
