Hi,

Has anyone experience of using Taxez? I signed up, uploaded some docs and am getting nervous they are not legit.

My initial research seemed to suggest they were ok but communication and details are scant.

Thanks

Do you know if they are qualified accountants and who the firm is run by?

If they are qualified accountants you can check they are listed on professional body websites.

Hi,

Thanks, good point...their website says you are assigned a dedicated chartered accountant. I have not verified whether or not this is true.

That will probably be the ICAEW but if you dont find the accountant listed there ask which Chartered association they belong to as there are a few.

Straight from their website (taxez.co.uk/why-us):

No Bookkeeping Software Required

Bookkeeping software such as FreeAgent, Xero and QuickBooks typically costs £300+ per year. Unlike other firms, we do not require you to buy or use any bookkeeping software. We know bookkeeping software is expensive, draining to learn and time consuming to use.

At taxez, as part of our business package, we offer to produce your accounts from your business bank transactions alone. In fact this is our preferred method as it ensures your accounts are prepared accurately, while reducing your software costs and saving you hours of bookkeeping.

Hmmm.. Nowhere on their website do they mention they are Chartered, only thay "you will be allocated your own dedicated, experienced Chartered Accountant".

Have checked all the main bodies (ICAEW/ICAS/ACCA/CAI) using the registered office address, and no results found.

The main man is Richard McIntosh, if that helps find out.

They've been around since 2017.

I can't see any evidence that they're not legit, but it really depends on what level of service and expertise you are looking for.

At this price, you can expect a lot of AI or offshoring- which is OK for basics, but obviously won't offer guidance or advice

2024 accounts for Richard Mcintosh Ltd had capital and reserves of £19.

The correspondence address is a shared workspace.

I'd put money on your accounts being sent overseas to some sausage factory in Thailand (who probably use AI to churn out the requisite documents).

Why Thailand? Because that's where his co-director lives: https://www.linkedin.com/in/chananya-mcintosh-4850641ba/

Maybe cheap but I'd be very wary of what you get for your money.

What about all the stuff that doesn't appear on bank statements, but needs to be in the accounts? Depreciation, for example.

Which bank? You may need to do a lot of work categorizing every bank transaction, unless they already have a way of doing this.

Useless apart from the very simplest of accounts, I would say.

Bookkeeping software can be had for much less than £300/yr, even free.
