hello i have 8 years experience working in nursery sectors and im looking into staring a nanny and babysitting agency in borehamwood. I have been in conversations with parents/ carers that alot of agencies charge alot for the service they provide, prior to my market research found that no agencies were operting in borehamwood and parents are not aware of agencies covering here, which is a chance to start up. I know i am not fullly confident or have a clue where to start but i have to start somewhere and with the help i know i can make this into a succesful business, as i know what parents want out of a nanny

Very new to this but i want to provide a service that is based in borehamwood, poverty has taken its toll here, and providing a service that is affordable to parents and carers will hopefully intrest them. I might not have a clue how to start this but in the long run i want to provide training, first aid, groups benifitfal to parents e.g healthy eating groups, behaviour workshops.

Tbh I'm not sure the impoverished can, or will pay. What you seem to want to be doing is running a scheme similar in essence to "sure start" - which ultimately proved economically non-viable despite councils and their bottomless wallets!

Social enterprise is great in theory, but you really need to look at the numbers if you want to run a business.

I wouldn't employ someone from a nanny agency where basic grammar was absent. Sorry to be so blunt but in all seriousness, you should consider how you will deliver your presentation to your respective clients.

As to your economics, I fear you'll need to charge a premium over salaries which you simply cannot recover from clients. The law here is quite specific, largely regarding tax avoidance.

Let's just pose a question here.

If you want the nanny to take home £500 per week, what do you think the client will have to pay the agency both on temporary commissions and permanent placement fees ?

Then work out your costs and profits.

Add those up and it'll give you a number which your client will have to be happy to pay. Now think, do lots and lots of people in Borehamwood have that sort of money to throw around ?

As a nanny for 8 years, i decided to open a nanny agency. it is very difficult! if people want to get a nanny for cheap, then they will use gumtree or childcare.co.uk.
I put my agency fees right down and could still not get any interest. I think it is such a hard market to go into as there are so few full time jobs around so a lot of the good nannies are changing careers, especially the english mother tongue nannies. There are already a lot of agencies around, although most of them are pretty dreadful for the nannies.
