Stand at an exhibition

it all depends on how much you would like to be at the show? if your double keen and book now you will pay top dollar, and have the spot you want, or hang out until the last few days and get a huge discount if you have the front too ask for it.
I have shown at the nec and earls ct for free at different high profile shows ,empty floor space is a big no no for the organisers

The price will very much depend on when you purchase it as suggested above. 5x5 is actually a pretty big plot too, that takes some filling !! Think about all that space worth of gubbins going into one transit van :) you may need two!

I have exhibited for various companies and quite a few times at the NEC, typically quoted anywhere from £3000 - 4500 for a 5x5 stand... I have NEVER paid that much. Think the most we paid for a 6 x 4 slot at the NEC ( a show called interbuild ) was about £2000, but the year after that we paid £150 because we booked 2 days before it started.

Booking late does have a price advantage, but the disadvantage is that you generally get NO choice where you will be, or even if you will amongst other items in your industry etc. The right spot makes quite a difference.

I also remember the prices differ slightly depending on the industry or particular show that you intend to be at.

Typical rates at a major exhibition are £300 - £500 per m2 floor space. Basic Shell scheme another £250 with spotlights + £50 per socket. Expect to pay for furniture - possible carpet too. Then allow another £200 for velcro fittings etc. Be careful. Unless you spend at least £100 quid on these extras they will find ' damage' to a panel costing you a good deal more.

BTW. For your type product you got that stand size wrong. There is little mileage in paying for a 5 x 5 m2.. Even 5 X 2 will look just as impressive with a few nice posters. That is a whooping 60% less.

Rule of thumb £300/£350 shell scheme per M3 + £150/£250 for electrcials per stand on a budget i.e. bring your own spotlights etc., add to that hotels + travel + time / wages. Check Ebay for every other muppet that bought new stuff and have theirs, I saw a 4x3m system for £150 a few months back with an original cost of thousands...

TIPS : Don't waste your money on stand depth only frontage (my next stand is 4x1m on a corner), play the waiting game it's a buyers market...

Great thread - I'm wondering about doing our 1st exhibition next year so have found all of the above really helpful

One quick question:

I have shown at the nec and earls ect for free at different high profile shows ,empty floor space is a big no no for the organisers

Purely our of interest, did they actually offer it to you for free as it was right at the last minute, or was that a result of some top quality blagging? I don't know if I'd have the balls to ask for something for free, but it would be interesting to know if it's worth doing if it pays off
